I have no doubt that Floyd Mayweeather Jr. is a fantastic fighter and on ability he could go down as an ATG. However his in and out of ring tactics do not do his talent justice. In the ring he is way too safety first. He throws single shots and then covers up with the shoulder. He never takes risks and thus has been involved in a lot of boring shut out fights. He is never willing to stand toe to toe and give the crowd what they want. Out of the ring (cherry picking opponents etc) he doesn't take risks. e.g. JMM blown up super feather. He wants nothing to do with mosley or williams... true welterweights. To sum up, everything he does is too safety first and he is never willing to take risks. Although he has the athletic ability, hand speed, stamina, chin and everything else to go down as a real ATG (SRL, SRR, Hagler, Hearns, Duran, etc etc.) he may not go down as one. e.g. tommy hearns is not remembered for gettin KO'd by Hagler, he is remembered for the great fight which he took part in. Mayweather has never been in a war or a great fight and at this rate he won;t ever be involved in one.
My point exactly! too bad because I think he has what it takes to beat anyone at welter but I guess we'll never know. real waste :-(
he is already an atg in everyone's book. I don't think he has the ability to be considered as good as guys like Duran, Leonard, and SRR though. Not even close.
no, mayweather was a super feather when he was at a young age and still growing, moving through the divisions, he is a true welter now. look at his physique marquez was a super feather in his mid 30's, and has blown up for 1 fight. big difference
This fight with JMM and maybe Hatton even though Hatton weighed more then Mayweather on fight night are the only fights May has actually been the bigger guy so stop with that picking on smaller fighter bull ****. He is a all time great it's not even debatable. He hasn't been in any great wars because so far nobody has been good enough to put him in that kind of war. Is it his fight lol that nobody has been good enough to push him to the limit. Castillo gave May hell in the first fight and was schooled the 2nd time around. Corrales was favored over PBF and undefeated and was supposed to give May hell but was simply out classed. May has beat 16 champs and has been champion over a decade, there is no way he cherry picked that whole time and faught bums. He won't fight Mosely or Williams is bull ****. You can you tube Mosely ducking PBF over vacation and a toothache lol thats a fact idiot. Williams is fighting Pavlick at 160 next so thats out of the question. Cotto was to green remember when he ducked PBF. Sounds like we haven't had those fights because of Mosely and Cotto to me so that makes you a you guessed it a HATER:hi: Sorry PBF schools everyone and makes it look easy.
Because you don't like his style he should change it up is ****ing funny as hell. Stop doing what made him P4P #1 and undefeated and change it up to make you happy lol is just stupid. Stop fighting his stlye that no one has cracked to make body shot 89 happy lol get the **** out of here.
As a fan of Floyds ability, I think he can beat everyone in 140 & 147 (the 2 weight classes he's weighing in at now). However, there is no doubt that his resume doesn't do him justice. He has beaten 0 prime ATG's IMO, and my ATG ranking of him (somewhere between 35-45) is based mostly on his insane amount of natural ability!!! I hear a lot of other Floyd fans telling me how he's the best in the business, yet they defend him avoiding the big fights rather that wanting him to prove them right!! That always surprises me. If they meet, I think Floyd will defeat Pac (or Cotto if he wins for that matter), but at the moment, Pac IS the P4P no.1, and Pac IS higher in ATG ranking.
floyd wants to be a crowd pleaser, before every fight he promises to stand toe to toe and never does, however his passion for money and protecting his 0 always comes before his desire to be remembered as a great fighter
Not every fighter is a toe to toe fighter, which is why boxing is such a versatile sport. Learn to appreciate the different styles.
