Who Took More Risk...Oscar De La Hoya or Felix Trinidad???

I can just imagine the large amount of disagreements with this thread...
However...IMO, This is actually an easy question to answer.

FELIX "TITO" TRINIDAD....HANDS DOWN, BY FAR, WITHOUT QUESTION TOOK WAY MORE RISK THAN DE LA HOYA!!!

Tito took the bigger risk but Oscar never really avoided anybody either

but Tito fough a young Vargas and a prime Mayorga too

He also took a risk on a bigger Winky, but then again, DLH did the same with Hopkins.

 

Mayorga wasn't in his prime at 160 pounds.

 

Then why didn't the Golden Girl fight the rematch with Trinidad?

Cause of the money issue. Trinidad wanted 60/40 in his favor while Oscar wanted 60/40 in his favor even though he lost but back then he was the bigger draw then Trinidad.

 

Both guys took great risks. You could say Tito for fighting Winky but imo both took about the exact same risks.

 

And he never fought at middleweight before until he fought Trinidad. <<So you can't say Mayorga was in his prime at 160 pounds in which thats way too high for him. Mayorga look out of shape on fight night.

The reason it is common perception that Hoya had the riskier opposition is largely based on their time at welterweight. Hoya had the fortune of fighting a fresher Whitaker who was the man at the time and Trinidad fought a Whitaker on his last leg. Also Quartey is missing from Trinidad's resume. However I don't think its very fair to Trinidad as Quaretey was known for taking large breaks. Trinidad never fought Mosley but we also know that's because a Mosley/Trinidad fight was planned but then Mosley lost to Wright. I think they took equal risks. Hoya was the bigger draw and drew lots of fighters to him too and has a star-studded resume. Trinidad, with less resources, has a pretty damn good resume too.

 

And your point is? Look at 147 (in his prime) or at 160 Tito KO’s him

 

The 50/50 split was on the table when Trinidad was retiring. Back in their primes, both wanted bigger purse in their favor in the rematch. Back then Oscar should have got the bigger purse cause even though Trinidad won the fight, many still thought Oscar won it and Oscar is a bigger draw then Trinidad in which that should give him the right for the bigger purse.

 

Stupid thread, neither of these 2 guys were afraid of anyone in their prime!!!
