What about when De la hoya fought a prime speed Mosley and fought a prime dangerous hard jab of Quartey?

 

I think that the difference between them is that when Tito fought the risky fights it was because he was cocky enough to think that he would be able to destroy the guy whereas when oscar took them he was taking them to test himself knowing full and well that he may lose.

 

Granted.

However, when the 50/50 split was offered Trinidad had already been beaten and most boxing "experts" would have picked dlh to win the rematch.

Plus, Trinidad was a much bigger draw by this time.

De la Hoya plain and simply wanted NO PARTS of Felix Trinidad...

Much bigger draw? Nobody under the heavyweight division was or is the bigger draw then De la hoya. De la hoya sell out arenas more then Trinidad. De la hoya was one of the biggest ppv draw of all times. Oscar been on 4 ppv fights that went over a million buys while Trinidad went one and that was against De la hoya.



I'll give you an example. It was Trinidad first time at a ppv in a main event on hbo when he fought De la hoya.



De la hoya vs Hopkins went over a million buys. <<<<<<This is the same Hopkins who can't draw flies.


De la hoya vs Mayweather break all time ppv record in ppv buys. <<<<<<This is the same Mayweather that before facing De la hoya couldn't get 400 buys on ppv fights.



De la hoya in his last fight vs Pacquiao did a million ppv buys. <<<<<Same Pacquiao that did like what up 400k in ppv buys vs Marquez in a rematch? And was this the same fight that everybody thought it was a circus fight?

That doesn't matter. You say this AFTER the fight. Risks are taken before the fight. Trinidad didn't know Mayorga wasn't gonna be effective at this weight. And says who anyway? cause he lost? :roll:. Trinidad himself wasn't at his best weight.

 

No I think both men were risk takers just for different reasons that's all. In retrospect is a risk really a risk if the guy taking it doesn't think that it is? Kinda like the tree falling in the woods argument.

Take Trinidad vs hopkins for instance. Hopkins was a beast and a huge risk but not in Tito's mind, Tito thought that he would be able to KO him easily so was he really taking a risk or not?

 

Let me clarify...

By the time of Trinidad's first retirement he was a much bigger draw than he was during the dlh fight.

 

And guess what doofus! Oscar was even a BIGGER draw than he was for the Tito fight.

 

They both took equally great risks...they both dared to be great IMO.
