Who Took More Risk...Oscar De La Hoya or Felix Trinidad???

You can debate who was better between them, but to say one took greater risk than the other isn't fair, nor is it right..

 

Nope cause Pacquiao destroyed a shot De la hoya at 147 pounds in which it didn't slow down Pacquiao at all. Pacquiao wasn't out of shape or anything like that the way Mayorga was when he fought Mitchell. For goodness sake Mitchell only had 16 wins with 3 losses in which Mayorga who tko Forrest couldn't even stop Mitchell. And in the Trinidad fight, Mayorga was so out of shape in which it look like he was partying a day before the fight and Mayorga look like the smaller fighter.

 

They both gave us FANS some of the best fights thru the 90s. When RJJ was fighting cab drivers and bums, Tito and Oscar were fighting future hall of famers, nuff said.


BTW...To those commenting on why Oscar never took the rematch versus Tito, it was all about pride for Oscar plus he had Arum on his side who didnt help much either. On the first contract the rematch clause stated the only thing they (Tito and Oscar) would do was to switch places in the contract. Tito would make what Oscar made in the first fight, Tito's name would go where Oscar's name was and DK would promote the fight. Oscar NEVER showed up to the NYC DK offices the next week thus giving the impression he didnt want the rematch.

 

Both of them took a lot of risk. Both fought so many top fighters during their prime.

Tito fought-Camacho-carr-whitaker-delahoya-campas-vargas-joppy-hopkins-mayorga-winky-jones(late in career)etc

Oscar fought-chavez-ruelas-camacho-whitaker--quartey-mosley-vargas-tito-carr-hopkins-mayweather-mayorga-pacquiao etc

delahoya took on more challenges but both are pretty much a warrior for taking on all challenges.

 

i agree because they both went for it in their careers. it was part of their appeal.

 

He didn't do it cause he feels he was robbed in the first fight. Maybe if Trinidad would have beat Oscar clearly in which no controversy there wouldn't be no problem for the rematch to happen. But again Oscar feels he got robbed in which he feels he should still get the bigger purse and why should Trinidad get the bigger purse in the first place? If it wasn't for De la hoya, Trinidad wouldn't be an hbo ppv star. <<<<<I know i might get bashed for this but imo it's true. Remember this was Trinidad first ever hbo ppv main event fight when he fought De la hoya.

I disagree..Trinidad had a huge following here in New York, and certainly in Puerto Rico, he also had the respect of true hardcore fans..he was a PPV draw with or without DLH IMO..maybe not to the extent Oscar was, but he was a huge draw himself...to this day he can still sellout the Garden fighting a tomato can..believe that..

 

true tito was already a huge star by the time he fought delahoya. That's why the fight was so big. 2 of the biggest stars in boxing at the time and fighting in their prime.

 

Yup Trinidad was a ppv draw but never came close to a million ppv buys without De la hoya name next to him. Trinidad can sell out arenas at the garden and in puerto rico but Oscar can as well easier. Oscar can fight tomato cans and still can sell out arenas.


Now back to ppv buys, Oscar and Trinidad common opponents Hopkins, Mayorga, Vargas. Trinidad vs Vargas did around 400k or 500k while De la hoya vs Vargas did around 930k.


Trinidad vs Mayorga did i believe 450k while De la hoya vs Mayorga did 855 or more ppv buys.


Hopkins vs Trinidad did like around 400k while Hopkins vs De la hoya did over a million buys.
