I'm a fan of both guys. And anyone who thinks they KNOW FOR SURE how this would have unfolded is probably a hugger or a hater. This could have gone either way. Shane was (is) the better boxer of the two and if the fight went twelve rounds, should have won by a clear margin. However, Kostya had a dynamite right hand and he could have stopped Shane in any round if he managed to land it properly. Admittedly, Shane has a better chin than Zab but if he gets caught, he would be damaged to the point that Kostya would have finished him, either by KO or TKO. If they fought 10 times , I see Shane winning six or seven. And while it would most likely be by decision, Shane was more than capable of coming up with the KO. Would have been a great fight.
Excellent post. All this Shane/Tszyu wins EASY  **** is just that...****. Neither guys would have an easy win. And for the record, my mony would be on Shane, but it would be a tough fight. Remember, at 135, his toughest test was probably Phillip Holiday. Good, solid fighter, but a contender at best.
Do you really think Tszyu hits harder than Cotto, De La Hoya, Forrest, Vargas, or Margarito does? None of those guys with, the exception of Forrest, were really able to hurt Shane or put him down.
It's not always about power, but where the punch lands. Hell, Tszyu was able to blast Judah out in 2 rounds. Neither Clottey, Mayweather, or Cotto were able to replicate that feat. Don't take this as me saying he would KO Shane, but it's certainly not out of the realm of reality (reality in a hypothetical sense that is ).
Mosley with or without juice? Seriously, KT is outmatched because of Mosley's chin, and ability to throw fast and powerful combinations. KT might stun SMM during the fight but I don't think he has the arsenal to put him away. If KT was fit I think it would go to a UD, as he has a decent chin himself and SSM would not expose himself to a puncher like KT. It would definitely be an entertaining fight. If SSM was below his best he might lose a UD.
At LWW I think he consistently hits harder than those guys, although ODLH's left hook was a thing of beauty. Cotto is an accumulation puncher, Margarito punches with his arms, Forrest and Vargas hit hard but KT's power combined with his accuracy are superior. However, he still loses to SSM IMO.
I think it'd be a tough fight for both guys. Tszyu had nice boxing skills, was effective at controlling the tempo behind his jab and hard, accurate right hand. He also had better speed in his younger days (although still at a speed disadvantage to the ultra-fast Shane). People bring up guys who gave Tszyu problems through pressure, not allowing him space, but Mosley's not a pressure fighter like that. He stays at mid-range, fighting like a speedy slugger, looking to counter. Mosley had a tendendcy to wing wide shots and try to kill you with each punch, so I think Tszyu would definitely have success with straight shots. However, Mosley has a terrific chin, so I doubt he ends the fight anywhere but on his feet. Although he paws too much with his jab, one thing that I liked very much that he did versus Oscar in their first bout was that he threw it effectively, sometimes doubing up, to set up his right hand. He threw a lot of straight right hands in that bout, as opposed to the chopping right hand he frequently throws. Shane could land that straight right hand effectively on Tszyu, who didn't move his head enough. Also, with the exception of Cotto, which came when Mosley was older, the guys who gave Shane the most problems were taller and rangier. Despite the marvelous performance against Margarito, I think most would agree he was better in the late 90s/early 00s than he is now. I would make Shane the slight favorite in this bout.
At 140, YES ! Marg and Varg didn't fight at 140. At 140, Tszyu hit Harder than Oscar, Cotto or Forrest. He beat Forrest decisively in the Olympic finals. As I said earlier, I'd pick Shane MOST of the time. But Tszyu had power, timing and placement.
Because I have Mosley starting quick ala Judah when he fought Tszyu. Rough him up fast and pressure early. But Tszyu's timing will catch him too much on the way in and it will hurt. Won't KO Mosley but will get his attention big time and stave him off a lot. (Check Tszyu's first fight with Mitchell for this too - where he goes all out early but gets caught and resorts to ducking to the ground almost, hugging or staying out of range to avoid getting hurt more from then on). Unlike Mitchell though, Mosley has the talent to stay out and pick his spots alot better - this is where it comes down to ringmanship and boxing skill. Of which both guys are masters and it's anyone's close decision. It could very well end up being a KO but if I were to do a pre-fight analysis it would look very similar to the above.
Aw, now you went and hurt my feelings, even though you didn't really make any point. Care to fill in the gaps in my education ?
