How long do you think MMA will last?

about the ppv - mma hasn't been around that long. i think it's still in the stage of starting to go mainstream. IMO 600,000 ppv buys aint that bad for a very young sport. give it 5 to 10 years :good

many MMA fighters lack respect for their opponents - yeah, i know that they trash talk their opponents before the fight but rarely would you see guys that don't shake hands/hug/show respect after a match, unless there is a "real" bad blood between the 2 fighters.

heavy metal music - why? would you prefer some "jonas brothers" or "clay aiken"? i think rock music is appropriate for MMA

now, one of the main reasons that i think MMA will last for a long time is because they have a good system (not yet perfect, but good). like, top fighters face each other sooner or later, nobody can protect their "0"'s or winning streaks. champions = top fighters of the division, unlike in boxing where some champions are called "paper champs", "bums", etc (those came from boxing fans themselves).

 

UFC 100, 1.5 million buys. UFC is only 16 years old. Food for thought.

A generation or two, at least. It will be banned eventually though. Dogfighting was the national sport of England for 1000 years. Times change.

 

It has lasted for a long time now. Since 1993 up to now is pretty good and it's only growing bigger.

 

I think untill boxing takes it seriously, is when it will be put down....

its like in american football, people looked as the USFL in the 80's as something new to football, and then the nfl stepped it up, and eventually put the USFL out of business....

mma will have a cult following.....and i dont think mma fighters are glorified barfighters....but this **** about having some major skills I have a problem with..... i go to forums time and time again where hardcore mma fans will argue with hardcore boxing fans about more skill and technique....

mma lets face it, is a glorified street fight.....learning bjj or any martial arts is not going to help you in a street fight, which in essence what mma is.....

boxing is much better from a skill perspective.....boxing's problems stems from politics......but the overall sports ahead to ahead boxing crushes mma time and time again.....mma wont beat boxing, boxing will beat itself.....and i doubt boxing will kill itself it has surivied this long.....if boxing got serious, I think it could put mma out of business....

 

I'd love to see the '09 numbers. MMA is JUST getting the numbers that boxing has BEEN getting. And since the UFC has so much money...when do they start getting the same paydays?

Yeah and look how well they've done against skilled guys, have you looked at their records? You implied a bar room brawler could become SUCCESSFUL in MMA, it has yet to happen.

Do you care to comment on Rattler's PPV numbers and the 1.5 million PPV buys for UFC 100? Or do you just ignore comments you have no answer for?

well to be fair to david, kimbo slice was marketed as the "mainstream" next big thing for mma, look how well that turned out?......now they have lesnar? who refuses to answer any questions about steroid use, and is a former wwe superstar

then before him they had liddel, who was trying to make it mainstream by appearing on shows and sitcoms....and then brutally gets KTFO back to reality....

then the other big mma star they pushed as "mainstream" was shamrock...and what did he do he went to the fake wwe, as far as i'm concerned mma has no real credibilty with the casual sports fan.....like i said before it will be a cult following, but once boxing really takes these guys seriously, then arum and gbp of the world would put the clamps on it, and run it out of town....

as i said before if you watch mma it looks and appears like a street fight, some might like that, but not me
