First things first, Arum does indeed talk a lot of crap- but he's not the only one talking this possibility up. The honchos at the New Yankee Stadium are also talking about boxing being staged there: http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=4463325 Now, I absolutely love the New Yankee Stadium- it's much better than our new Wembley, IMO. What would all of you think if boxing returns to baseball stadiums? Can people still claim that boxing is dying? Boxing deserves to be filling out stadiums all over the world, IMO, and if a fight is made at the Yankee Stadium then I would love to go. This content is protected Thoughts are welcome:good.
100% in agreement. Boxing needs to start taking the big fights to the big arenas. Hatton, Calzaghe, Kessler and Klitschko have successfully did this in Europe, so cant the Americans do it.
Definately:good. With MMA still being unlicensed in NY, this could be quite a coup to capture the general public's interest in boxing again in America as well:think.
pac v pbf although the vegas casinos would obvioulsy catch this one instead, i was at yankee stadium before and it would be a great event for a big fight
By 'our' I guess you mean American. Well, look at it like this, this could capture the imagination of the public again. I'm sure that the Puerto Ricans could pack the place out if a PR boxer was on show, but I think you're also selling your countrymen out a bit short there- I think tickets would sell well amongst Americans if they were priced sensibly and the fight was big enough. Also, let's say a British fighter was fighting a well known American, more Brits would travel to NY as it's cheaper and the travel time is (obviously) shorter. As for 90,000, doesn't the New Yankee Stadium hold 50-odd thousand? I thought it did but I might be wrong. Personally, I think this is a brilliant idea and I hope it comes to fruition:good.
If Jones and Hopkins fought in a stadium garunteed it would sell out .. I Manny Pacquio fought Mayweather in a stadium it would sell out . If the super six was in a baseball stadium it would sell out why not ..
A lot of guys can pack out a stadium, it's all about having good undercards and pricing the tickets accordingly. Packing out stadiums doesn't happen as much anymore because you can watch a match on your 50" HD Television these days where as 60 years ago even the nose bleeds were better then a 13" hazy B/W or a radio.
Indeed. Of course tickets will sell if the promotion and pricing is right. If it happens, I can't wait.
I think Arum is waiting on that Margarito Vs. Cotto II for New Yankee Stadium.:hey (He is defo not putting PBF in his plans at the moment at all, It seems)
