It looks like Kirkland is screwed. It looks like he's going to be doing about 3 or 4 years. He had ballooned up to 195 lbs. , but now is supposedly down to 178. His lawyer is hoping for 20 months or less. However, with his past incarceration and juevinille record, that probably won't happen. The sad thing is that the guy tried to purchase a gun after being robbed at gunpoint and is now about to get totally ****ed. Damn shame.

What a shame. I was really looking forward to following his career. Pity that he has compromised himself with his poor choices.

I don't think she'll ever make a public comment, she must be heartbroken.

They're talking between 45 and 54 months, and he has 6 months served time. If he gets 54 months, he'll do between 42 and 48 months. This is a Federal case.

he was 25 so by the time he gets out he could be close to thirty????.... his career is most likely done. sucks... was one of my favorite prospects. And he had a good chance at making a much much better life for him and those he loves.

He made some poor choices, but the case highlights some of the flaws in the justice system. Purchasing a gun in itself is not a crime. However, they're continuing to punish him for crimes for which he already did time. Now he's ****ed for trying to protect himself by doing something that he has a constitutional right to do.

Being that its Federal he would only get about 5% off for good time, meaning if he gets the max 54 months he is going to serve about 48 months

I hope Kirkland gets out for boxing sake (and stays out of trouble) but...you are 100% correct.

Polish, you're not understanding me here. Kirkland ****ed up here, no doubt about it. However, he did is time. With the way the system is setup though, you're pretty much doing time forever. The guy was robbed at gunpoint and sought means to protect himself. Are you saying that because he committed a crime 5 years ago, that he doesn't have the right to protect his own life? What if he were to be robbed again and was shot and killed? I'm not painting Kirkland as a victim, I'm pointing out the flaws in the justice system. I feel we have a great legal system, but it's not perfect.

It's pretty easy to just paint someone as a dumb **** convict when you're looking in from the outside. It's no wonder so many of these guys go back to prision. Not only is the system going to continue to punish them for life, but society will turn their backs on them and treat them as subhuman.
