I just wanted to RE-SUBMIT this thread...to give some of the "Day-Timers" a chance to respond since I originally posted this at 11:10pm last night!!!

Berto should NOT wait for any of the winners of Pac/Cotto, PBF/JMM or Mosley/Clottey.

He needs to stay busy, sharp, RELEVANT and in the ring beating LEGIT competition during this Fall/Winter season...Between Now-January!!!

    Decent Welterweights that are available:
    Berto vs Antonin Decaire
    Berto vs Vyacheslav Senchenko
    Berto vs Isaac Hlatswayo

In his last two fights...he weighed in at 145 1/2lbs. And Although he has a great body and physique...he is not an overwhelming Welterweight.

He (and his team) should look at the possibility of fighting
Jr. Welters 140lbs and making a fight at 144lbs.

    The Fights I like:
    Berto vs Maidana (good fight)
    Berto vs Khan (better fight)
    Berto vs Juan Diaz

Or if he doesn't want to "Drop Weight"...He (and his team) could try to convince Jr. Middlewieghts 154lbs to meet at 150-151lbs.

    The Fights I like:
Berto vs Sergio Martinez (Good Fight)
    Berto vs Cory Spinks
    Berto vs Cintron (Good Fight)
    Berto vs Angulo
    Berto vs Dzindziruk
    Berto vs Sergio Mora

The worst thing for Berto is to DO NOTHING!!! Keep your Face and Name seen!!!! Especially impressively IN THE RING!!!

HBO is offering less money for the rematch than what they did for the first fight.

Rafael in his blog today wrote that Berto's current options may either be to elect for a 2 fight deal with Showtime to fight Isaac Hlatshwayo and then the Bradley-Peterson winner or to stay idle until next year when HBO's new budget becomes available and fight Mosley on January 30th. Dibella seems eager to get his fighter back into the ring before the year is up so perhaps we see Berto switch networks for the time being and attempt to unify against Hlatshwayo.

Berto should stay away from top welters, he will get beaten again.

Either rematch Collazo or fight Cintron who is at least a name and a former WW ABC beltholder.

    Agreed

These fighters represent the quality of opposition that Berto should be attempting to prove himself against at this juncture of his career. You would think a Berto-cintron fight would be relatively an easy match to make considering both are promoted by Dibella. The Collazo rematch seems unlikely considering HBO's current funding constraints and I have a hutch that if they don't fight soon there may never be a rematch.

What is it about Berto that people think that he's NOT a Top Welter....or even NOT a Legit Fighter.

Berto Has had two fights where he looked a lil' frustrated and a lil' un-sure...Urango and Collazo...both are Southpaws.

We have seen TOP-SHELF ELITE-LEVEL orthodox fighters struggle with Southpaws over the years...Most recently Mayweather with Judah.
    IT HAPPENS!!!

Berto is PHENOMINAL. A Solid fighter, Speed, Above-Average Boxing Skill, Can Move very well...Put him in the Ring with ANY Orthodox Fighter....Guarantee.....He'll look alot BETTER than he did against Collazo and Urnago.

In fact...He'll Destroy Cintron, Angulo too (even though he's 154lbs) And the kid who has the belt that just beat Rodriguez...Hliatshwayo.

Whatever Berto decides to do....It needs to get done NOW!!! His face and Name needs to be seen. Because if not...After all these big fights at Welter are over...Negotiations will begin for Cotto/Pac vs Mayweather/JMM or Mosley/Clottey...And because of his (Berto) in-activity...HE'LL BE THE ODD MAN OUT....AGAIN!!!

How is Khan ready for Berto?

Khan is looking to establish a legacy at 140lbs.

Mainly his level of opposition is the reason he's not seen as an elite fighter. You become an elite fighter by beating many top contenders (as way of separating yourself from them) or beating other elite fighters. He's barely done the former, and has not done the latter.

Now I am not one to say that's the best reason, but Berto's team doesn't seem to be looking to make any big fights right now. And that's a good thing.

He struggled vs. Collazo, same one who Shane almost blanked in their fight. He can remove that stigma with a good win in a rematch. Yes Berto's Mgmt seems to use the "no money involved" line already. And Urango is a jrWW remember.

And Mayweather id not struggle with Judah like how Berto struggled with Collazo. Not even close. Mayweather was in cruise control after about 5-6 rounds. Bad comparison.

Berto needs to face guys like Judah, Collazo (again), Hlatswayo, Lujan, or Gomez before thinking of facing the Cotto's/Mosley/Williams/Mayweather of the WW division. Fights against the first guys on the list will tell us more.

Berto is a phenomenal athlete and excellent boxer. But it's a whole new game when you step up.

And no, he would NOT destroy Cintron or Angulo. They are big guys who can hit and take a punch.

On the contrary, Berto and his team have been for some time now seeking out the big fights with their primary target being Shane Mosley. Dibella has previous shown interest in matching his fighter against Cotto as well. The problem right now is that HBO doesn't have the funds to appease both parties for a potential Mosley-Berto unification bout.

As a Berto fan, I'd be more comfortable with Berto matched against the second tier welters such as Cintron, Collazo, Judah, or Quintana however these potential matches seem unlikely at the moment for various reasons such as money and weight.

I suspect that Berto will either fight Hlatshwayo on Showtime before year's end or wait out Mosley as Dan Rafael has pointed out in his blog today.

I'm not a Cintron fan but i don't think Berto will destroyed him. You actually think Berto would destroyed Angulo? Are you kidding me? Look at the size different. If freaking Collazo who can't pack a punch hurt Berto on a couple of occasion then what makes you think Berto will have an easy time with Angulo? Why cause Angulo isn't a southpaw?

What did DiBella do to make him "show an interest mean" in Shane and Cotto? Mention them in an interview? Hope that didn't come off as dick-ish, if it does sound that way. Shane was begging to get a fight made. An offer would have helped turn the wheels.

These fighters need to stop looking at HBO to overpay them to fight. Of course it's a little late for that as HBO has pretty much dug themselves in a hole (now every fighter expect big HBO money regardless of status it seems), but what's the alternative? Getting less for a fight versus someone who won't raise his stock on a regional PPV? Or Showtime?

HBO needs to say, "Here's how much we'll pay you. You aren't a huge start and you aren't a rating phenom..don't like it? Fight for less on showtime or make the fight on your own."

Brutal,. but the way these guys cry about money...might need to happen.

But I agree totally on who Berto should fight. Collazo or judah are perfect right now. I'm not 100% sure he beats Cintron right now. If he did, I don't think it would be a pretty fight though.
