I think it's time that we take a closer look @ Roy's career as a LHW; Nov '95 W12 Mike McCallum for the interim WBC title - Roy's first meaningful fight @ 175 pounds against a past his prime McCallum Jul '98 W12 Lou Del Valle for the WBC/WBA title - Roy is handed the WBC belt when Fabrice Tiozzo moves up to CW and wins the WBA title that was stripped from DM. Jan '99 W12 Richard Frazier - Roy defends his worthless WBC and WBA trinkets against a *full time NYC Police Officer*. Jun '99 W12 Reggie Johnson - Roy defends his worthless WBC and WBA trinkets and also wins the equally worthless IBF trinket [also stripped from DM] by beating a guy who was 4-2 in his last six fights. I don't remember who it was exactly but didn't Reluctant Roy also fight another civil servant during his tenure @ LHW? A Garbage Man IIRC...
What difference does it make if DM vacated the alphabet organization's titles or not? Those titles were never lost in the ring - where it matters. Champions make title belts - not the other way around. DM beat Hill to establish himself as THE MAN @ 175lbs - this simple fact is beyond dispute. Jones never beat DM therefore his "championship reign" @ LHW is, was, and always will be a fraud.
You can pick holes over anybodys record. Hill aside who the bloody hell did DM fight? How many world champs?
You're preaching to the chior. I agree, DM hid himself in Germany and fought a string of BUMs, STIFFs, Tomato Cans, No Hopers, and Never Were's - same as Roy. However, that doesn't change the fact that in order to be The Man, you have to beat The Man. DM was The Man @ 175lbs - Roy was NOT...
It is not that easy. Jones was the pound for pound number one coming into the LH division. He picked the major belts and unified them.Plus, he beat Hill too. DM became linear champ after beating Hill and vacating those belts. But, he never left Germany and refused to defend the major belts. It has never been determined who the man was as RJ as pound for pound number one and DM as linear champ, both had a claim to it.
That's not what happened. On June 13, 1997, he defeated Virgil Hill over 12 rounds to add Hill's WBA and IBF titles to his own. However, Michalczewski soon lost both alphabet titles. This content is protected an organization it didn't recognize. This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected He got ****ed over. No question that those ABC's wanted those belts in the hands of the bigger star in Roy.
The WBA stripped him isntantly, he had no chance to fight Del Valle. He was not stripped for facing mandatories, he was stripped by the WBA for holding the WBA belt alongside the WBO belt, ie a tragic example of boxing politics. You have been schooled on this very topic before. :nono
Yes, I remember the events now again . But you are not telling the entire truth. DM could have kept the WBA if he vacated the WBO belt. So, DM ELCTED to keep the WBO belt mainly because Kohl had major control over that sanctioning body and because he was long tem WBO champ. This dcision shows IMO that DM never really wanted to go to the US and leave his comfort zone à la carl froch. He would have fought Jones if he kept those belts. As for the IBF belt, I think Dm did not want to defend against his mandatory (Guthrie) like the other guy said.
Reading isnt your strong suit I see...Bottom line is DM told the WBA that he wouldnt fight Delvalle was what was the point of them allowing DM to keep the belt...The excuse that the DM or Jones haters alwasy made was that the WBA was going to force DM to fight DelValle in 90 days which as I stated was clearly not the problem since DM fought within or close to that time frame anyways. Nor was he stripped for hold the WBO and WBA belts. He was stripped for not wanting to fight the guys that were put in front of him in order to keep the belt, end of story. It woud have been one thing had he gone out and fought better fighters but that isnt what he did...Boxing politics my ass, Dm knew going in that Delvalle was paid step aside money that allowed him to fight for the belt in the first place, its not something that was spung on him. No matter how many times you cats say it, it just will never make it true. As I said the guy had an option and he took the path that water always takes...The easy one:good
OK so the word against word, was he stripped because the WBO belt or because avoiding DelValle? Any links to prove either way?
Really???? Wiki is you source??? You do know that I you can edit that page dont you??? That is the worst soucre for information EVER...In fact I just at the website changed the part were it said that DM won a 12 dec over Hill to say a 7 round dec...Good lord man...
If you have been around long enough you would know that the people that are claiming that he was stripped for holding the WBO have changed their story several times, not to mention that they got it from Wiki as I stated in the post before you can edit that to say anything you want it to...Go right now and hit the edit button and it will allow you to go in and change anything you want.:hey
