The fight was highly controversial, as Dazzo Williams was awarded a controversial hometown decision, the fight was a defence of Dazzos british featherweight title. Simpson at the time of the fight was only 21 years old and had only been a pro for 2 years, but rose to the occasion by boxing Dazzo's ears off. It was ref Phil Edwards first title fight, & he gave Dazzo Williams the fight by one point. This was the fight that changed the history of fight scoring in Britain, as after this fight, british & commonwealth title fights are now scored by 3 judges, instead of a referee.
