I truly think he would dominate him even at 200lbs, Ademek is small for the weight anyway and it would be a title 4 weights above all against legit champs unlike Jones who just did it by cherry picking.
I like the Ademak fight for Hopkins, too, and am surprised that the prospect of the belt didn't sway him more. I also think he's miscalculating (or just making excuses) when he says Ademak isn't a draw. Face it, Bhop isn't much of a draw himself and other than maybe Jones (which isn't happening), he doesn't have a prospective opponent that would draw as well as Ademak (maybe Bute in Montreal, but he sure isn't doing that). He has 2 fights that make perfect sense for him and always had the option to drop to a title fight at 168 and didn't move on any of them. He seems to have retired himself as far as I can see.
I disagree on two main fronts: 1. Hopkins was having trouble making 160 when he fought Taylor (and I thought he absolutely, positively got robbed in the rematch) 2. Dawson fights in spurts. He does not fight every minute of every round the way Calzaghe did or the way that Taylor could do over the course of the first half of the fight. Based on the last I saw of Dawson, I'm convinced the Hopkins who beat Pavlik will beat Dawson. The question becomes, how much has Hopkins lost not fighting in over a year at his age?
I'm not sure if he even knows the answer to that question. If Golota beats him, I think he moves back down.
He most certainly should. Even if he beats Golota (which I doubt he will), he is not suited to fight the best heavyweights--he will get crushed.
You hit the nail on the head...Jones, Taylor and Calzaghe all one decisions against Bernard becuase they're fast and punch in combination which the judges seem to favor....Hopkins knows this...and Dawson is just too fast, and throws too many punches for Bernard to win a decision and he knows it...Adamek is a winnable fight for Hopkins...Dawson is not.
Dawson fights in spurts. That plays into Hopkins' favor, IMO. He does not fight hard every minute of every round. He was robbed in at least one of the Taylor fights, but at the end of the day, the pace Dawson fights at is more like that of Pavlik or Tarver than Calzaghe or Taylor (early in fights). Adamek has the power to knock Hopkins out, although, I wouldn't count on it. Hopkins saw something he liked in the Dawson-Tarver rematch. Trust me on this one. He views Dawson as an easier fight than Adamek.
Well I disagree....speed is what Hopkins has always had difficulty in nuetralizing....I agree that Hopkins got robbed in the Taylor fights but judges usually favor the flashy, quick, busier fighter...thats why I think Dawson is all wrong for hopkins....Adamek is a slower more stationary target who I think Hopkins could beat....and remember, it wasnt long ago that Adamek was fighting at 175 so I don't think he'll enjoy a huge size advantage over Bernard...again, hopkins has had the chance to fight Dawson on numerous occassions yet he's been more interested in Adamek and even a Trinidad rematch...what does that tell u
From an boxing fan point of view a Dawson fight is far better. It would be an evenly matched and very interesting fight. Hopkins, on the other hand, would dominate Adamek purely on the style match-up. I would have thought Hopkins would have wanted an easy extra belt for the collection. But as a pure boxing fan a Hopkins-Adamek fight is not intriguing. I like Adamek and I think Adamek would do at least as well as Dawson did against Johnson. Hopkins is just a bad match-up for Adamek.
i would say adamek is bad match-up for bhop. he's younger, bigger and stronger... too many people overrate old bhop. i'm not trying to say that he's weak or something but it's still 200 pounds limit...
