I know that Margarito is still relatively young and has some fight left in him. The year suspension (IMO) isn't going to effect him much at all, especially if he stays discipline and trains + spars to keep himself in shape. My questions to you guys are ... who should he fight in his come back? Add to that what weight class should he come back in? Would he be able to fight Cotto if he's at 154? Before a big fight against Cotto who should be his stiffest test on his way back?
I dont think he has much of a future left by the time he gets back near the top by the time the networks will want to see him again he will be all done. I really think the tough fights he has had through his career will start to take their toll on his body really soon, he has been in some ****ing wars man... I think its safe to say we will never see Tony in the same light as we had in the Cotto or Cintron fights
The only fight he has is cotto 2.......he has no future outside of that...... If he gets to fight cotto again, he would redeem himself with another victory, but if he loses his carear is over.....
Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought his ban was to be reviewed after a year and was likely to be extended by another year at least before he's allowed back in the ring. If he does come back then Cotto is also the only fight for him that I'd be interested in.
He has to fight a named opponent while on the comeback trail ... and I seriously believe that he will come back top 10 ranked in the division after 1 win. (against anyone) I'm sure (atleast I hope) that he's still in shape and is still atleast sparring. Yeah it doesn't make much of a difference but it will help him when having to cut weight before a fight. Who should he fight his first fight back?
What if he isn't able to fight at welterweight anymore ... can Cotto or do you think Cotto can fight that high?
How likely is he to get his licence back? I guess it depends on what the Mosley fight and a year long layoff have taken out of him. Whatever your opinion on Plastergate, he represents a high risk fight with no great payoff at this point.
I think a rematch with Cotto would be a lot like De La Hoya-Mayorga, a man with a once iron chin having had his punch resistance beaten out of him and facing an opponent too skilled for him on the night.
Yeah, apart from the money any fighter with a good name already would get little credit for beating him when no-one is really sure how long he might have been using plaster for. He might be a chance for a relative unkown to get a recognisable name on their resume but I can't see any of the big names at either 147 or 154 being interested unless Cotto feels he has a score to settle.
Margarito is just not the same fighter without the cement in his gloves, he'll lost to all top level guys and Cotto would beat his ass in a rematch...
If this is the case then its a damn travesty of justice. There is no proof whatsoever that Tony Margarito EVER loaded his gloves Not a shred just lots & lots of accusations & inuendos. The pad that was in his wrap was deemed HARMLESS by the guy he was fighting if you remember. Tony Margarito's only real crime was giving Cotto the ass kicking he did when he wasnt supposed to. He cost a lot of people a lot of money plus caused Mayfeather to "Retire" & DLH to retract his boast he wanted the winner of Margarito-Cotto as his swan song fight. The fight I want to see is a Margarito-Mosely rematch. Have Tony's wraps checked & double checked but also test Mosely pre fight for Hgh. That isnt detectable with the usual pee test fighters get as steroid users know. LOets have a legit fight with the best man winning. Forget Cotto cause Tony will kick his ass any day of the week and twice on Sundays
A year suspension is a slap on the wrist for potentially kill someone in the ring. Boxers takes a year off as a vacation. This is just a vacation for Marg.
Hey.. I thought he was innocent Margarito fans. I thought it was hand lotion and the case was being appealed..damn..its damn near a year latter.. Still banned..
