IVAN CLADERON!! Hands DOWN! He's the smallest fighter but has BEATEN ALL COMERS!! Agree or Disagree he's a pure BOXER and a defensive GENIUS, NO KO POWER but will outwork and outbox anyone he FIGHTS! BEST P4P from PR ALL-TIME! Ever hear of Tito? Trinidad is easily the best puerto rican fighter of all-time!!! Until Miguel Cotto ko's Pac that is.
You know you love De Leon . No in retrospect I'd probably have Pedro Montanez and Jose Basora on my list it was something I just whipped up off the top of my head. What about Sixto Escobar, his record wasnt dynamite, what can you tell me about him.
Calderon is not even top 10, Cotto is not even on my top 10 as of now (pending fights with Manny and PBF) Which really tells you of PR's quality in producing champions. The standard is set really high for all PR champs right now.
The very first Puerto Rican champion. Fought under circumstances that didn't allow him to be pampered by managers and brought up under safe conditions. A fighter that built up his experience and skills inside the ring against the very best, so naturally he'd have had a lot of losses (most of which still came toward the end of his career). His wins resume is better than most of the fighters listed though, having beaten many of the best Bantams of the era like Lou Salica, Eugene Huat, Pete Sanstol, Harry Jeffra, KO Morgan, Joey Archibald, etc. Great little fighter, one you can rest assured would've had a much prettier record had he been brought up during the days of record padding and safe management.
Thanks for the info. I agree alot of the old-timers werent pampered like they are today and their record doesnt always tell you the full story.
Carlos Ortiz, Gomez and Benitez my top 3. Honestly, You can't go wrong with any of these 3 at the Very TOP. Trinidad was great but top 5 definitely. I just believe that Ivan is overseen bc of the lack of pop in his punches . Also, he has not really moved in weight classes at all but has been there for over 8 years. But who could blame him ? He's 5 foot nothing and can NEVER make Bantamweight! What would he need to do to become a top 5 PR All-time Boxer ? If he could clean out the division would that make him an ATG among PR fighters? I was only trying to spark a debate among the PR boxing fans.
