He's gonna go in there and treat him like he's Alfonso Gomez. And Im going to catch serious flak for saying that, but I say it for this reason. Gomez (in contrast to Pac) found himself to be the bigger man, taller man, longer reach, fought the bigger fighters (he fought as high as 154 lbs...something Cotto hasnt done) The reason I make this comparison is for this reason...Both Pac and Gomez can only fight effectively coming forward. Pac going backward is going to be a HUGE problem. Both Cotto and Pac have the same weakness in that if you can absorb the punishment and push forward you'll have the fighter in their weaker forte. Pacquiao's backfoot game is levels below Cotto's backfoot game, but neither fighter is great off the backfoot. Unlike Pacquiao, Cotto can actually BOX backward. Cotto is most effective though against smaller fighters when he fights forward, he'll take some shots and then keep on truckin. The difference between DLH/Hatton and Cotto is that Cotto can throw a punch after being hit. This was the success for Marquez. Marquez managed to catch Pacquiao because he was able to fire while taking fire and continue to fire afterward. If you watch any highlight vid of Cotto in his biggest fights, Cotto can fire at you while taking a punch. Specifically in the Gomez fight. Cotto was taking plenty of shots, but when Gomez got hit...HE GOT HIT! If there was one thing to take away from the Marquez fights and the Paulie Malignaggi interview...it's this. Cotto hits ****in' hard. Anyone saying that Pacquiao hits harder is stupid. Period end of. And when Cotto hits you...many if not all his opponents tend to hesitate when they want to attack (because if they hit him...theyll get caught with something too) Clottey didnt gas...he wasnt inactive, he was afraid of getting hit with something big. He admitted this in the post fight interview. Mosley hesitated as well. They got excited and chased Cotto, but caught counter punches for their efforts and Cotto fought away to a victory. They were much bigger men. Judah tried to fight back and took more punches then he bargained for. Gomez tried to impose himself and got his ass beat. Pacquiao doesnt fight backward when he's hurt...he tries to come forward harder and faster...if you watch him when he was stunned against Morales and Marquez he shook it off and fought forward. This **** will pay dividends AGAINST Pac. He'll get suckered into a war and Cotto has the clear cut strength over Pac to win the exchanges. And this idea that he can outbox is ****in' funnier. IMHO...I just don't see how Pacquiao can win. Cotto will hunt your ass down. If you watch the Jennings fight (clearly the smaller man and faster man) Cotto had trouble getting to Jennings because Jennings was ****in' quick pumped his jab in there and got the **** outta dodge. If Pac tries to do the same thing, he'll find himself eating a solid punch on his way out of dodge, which is essentially what happened to Jennings when Cotto finally cut off the ring and caught him in a corner. Now granted Jennings hits like a ***** compared to Pac, but these guys are much bigger men in height, weight and reach and ALL got ****ed up trying to box backward and forward. The only guys to have their moments against Cotto were guys stronger and bigger than him...I think Mosley was on equal terms. And the only to pull it off was the freakishly abnormal chin in Margo (im not going to use the plaster excuse...although that can be a factor as well if were gonna be honest about it).

Unless Cotto gets cut open in there and BAD! (Which can happen from a headbutt considering their stances or taking too many direct shots in the area)...Pacquiao is going to be a highlight victory in Cotto's career Duran/Hearns style...

Another point people are forgetting is this...

Pac's power is HIGHLY overrated. DLH wasnt hurt or stunned at all during his fight. He was merely left with a swollen eye and a broken pride. But he was not hurt. He was looking to be KO'd but Pac simply couldnt deliver.

Hatton's punch resistance has been gone for quite sometime now. Seriously...all this BS about Pacquiao landing a one punch money shot is ignorant. Yes he landed a great punch, but Hatton's chin was depleted since the Mayweather fight...I might even say prior to that as well. His chin deficiency was evident in the Collazo fight. Since that fight, his chin has left many question marks about how many fights this guy had left.

The fight to pay attention to is the Diaz fight. He fought Diaz and hit him with everything, but the kitchen sink and it took him nine rounds. Diaz is a lightweight...a man that rehydrates to possibly 147 max. Cotto is going to come in at a healthy mid 150's range...possibly 160. Pacquiao is going to weigh in at 142 or 143 and then come in at 147 come fight night. He's just simply not big enough. The size discrepency will show on the day of the fight.

this is what i was looking for in a post.

which actually scares me considering cotto will come as high as 160 during the fight.
pac is truly a small fighter, i have seen him up close. just to give people an idea, he came in 138 for a 140 limit during the hatton fight.

which just goes to show that his optimum maximum fighting weight will be at 140 and not at WW.

I agree with this. if cotto is to ko manny then its going to be a case of wearing him down until the later rounds where manny will just collapse.

go to the body early on in the fight to try and take some of the speed out of manny, suck up manny's combos and then come back with some pressure of his own.

Another thing to mention and look at...which people like to ignore is this...

Cotto HAS DEALT with speedy fighters. Guys with quick feet (Malignaggi, Jennings, Judah). Guys with fast hands (Judah, Mosley, Clottey). Guys with good head movement (Judah, Quintana)...the point is he's DEALT WITH FAST FIGHTERS. He's had success against all of them. His problem are SIZABLE FIGHTERS. Pacquiao doesnt have it.

Pacquiao HAS FACED boxer punchers. Guys who take a punch and punch back (Marquez, Morales). Guys who look to counter (MAB, Marquez). Guys who use a jab a follow through witha power punch (DLH, MAB, Marquez, EM)...the point is he's FACED BOXER PUNCHERS. He's only looked good against one...DLH...and the man never fired back. He's always had issues with people who fight back. Who love a war. Who use a jab. Who can time Pacquiao's movements. You can arguably say that he beat the **** outta a prime MAB the first time around, but I say Marco changed his style a bit and didn't fight the way he should've like he did against Morales in their first fight...eat punches and simply say "**** you Im still here!". He tried to be tactical against a guy you don't have time to think against.

It's like Cotto's been saying all along...Pacquiao has faced some tough fighters...but no one like me.

That **** will ring true on Nov. 14th.

Cotto is not known for knocking out opponents with a head punch, he slowly inflict pain in different parts of the body (shoulders, ribs, face, chest, arms..) he has to be patient with Pac and try to minimize the space between them as much as possible. Some body punchers didnt do that good with Pac because of his ability to dance around the ring and keep the fight in the center. Cut the space between them, tuck in his chin, throw those power shots not necessarily to the body, and hope that Pac cant take it.

I think if Cotto can hurt Pac to the body first Pac will have no choice but to fold to Cottos barrage.

I think it's possible for Cotto to counter Pac, hurt him and finish him off. But I don't think it will happen. I think he has the power to hurt him with one good shot in the head or body, I'm just not sure if he'll land it.

This is going to be a tough fight for both. And honestly, I think the result will depend on what happens on Cotto's camp. Why?? Because Manny always come 100%. People who think Manny have not been doing his road work are delirious!! In the other hand, we have seen different Cotto's before. It looks like he is trying to be in the best shape possible for this fight. My question is: ARE THEY WORKING THE LITTLE DETAILS THAT NEED TO BE FIXED BEFORE A FIGHT AGAINST MANNY?? I certainly hope so. If that is the case, it will be the fight of the year. Cotto is way superior to Hatton and the Oscar version that got in the ring against Manny.

at some point manny has 2 set his feet and throw something, and thats when cotto will have his chance 2 land some hellacious combination or maybe a big left hook.
