Nope. Byrd has a better defense at HW and Wlad never struggled with that. Sam Peter didn't strugle to find Toney's head. To make Wlad uncomfortable, a fighter needs offensive speed, raw physical strength, a very aggressive style and punching power. Sanders, although a B - level fighter, would always be more dangerous for Wlad than the most skilled defensive master. The Byrd - Toney prototypes don't beat the Lewis - Bowe - Klitschko prototypes, whereas B -level fighters like Rahman or Sanders have a chance if they catch their opponent on a bad night.
Good to see a sane fan.:good Toney deserves props for hanging with the big guys as an ex - middleweight. He had a great career, no need to assume he can do the impossible.
Toney is way past it, he will lose to most heavies. Maybe a Toney vs Tyson fight right now would be a pick em
yeah Toney versus the Klits... How any sane James Toney fan wants to see that fight which would end with a severe braindamaged Toney is beyond me....
Paydays is what Klitschkos always look for by fighting Tony Thompson, Danny Williams, Ray Austin, Calvin Brock and that sort of unproven bums with a blown up fake "30-0" record. Toney always said that he wants to become heavyweight champion and he tried by fighting the best.
I'd love to see Toney face a Klitschko, but not next. He has to show us at least one more impressive performance, and against a better opponent than Greer, before he should even think about a Klitschko. The best thing for him would be to take 2-3 more tune-ups against top 20 guys, in a short period of time - like during the next 6 months - to get some more rounds under his belt and to help him keep in shape. Toney has always been best when he fights often. Then he MAY just be ready for a Klitschko.
tony thompson was a mandatory that wlad had to fight. wasn't he a southpaw aswell? people still had doubts whether wlad could deal with a big southpaw so the fight aswered a few questions there danny williams was coming off of a pretty big win aganst tyson, yes tyson was way past his best but he put on a good performance i'm not sure if ray austin was a mandatory but at the time i think a lot of people wanted to see wlad in with a guy the same size as himself to see how he handles it (austin was probably bigger in weight) calvin brock had a lot of hype behind him at the time and plenty of people fancied him over wlad at the time ^ all of these fights were legitimate. when the K's are beating every good heavyweight in the division its unsurprising that subsequent fights would be against weaker opposition. in many cases you can blame the american media for deciding one of their promoted americans is the next big thing, only to get blown away. people will call arreola a paycheck in a few months and forget the hype he has been given. the K's are't to blame for consistently beating everyone put in front of them
Would love to see it for the boxing perspective. Toney looks great at this weight. I'd love to see him still do the old thing in the ring. TOney V Areola has to happen also
That's pretty funny. All this time I thought he was calling out Wlad and Vitali. I never knew that they had sisters.
For what it is worth the guy Toney fought had only been stopped once by Kevin Johnson and Toney stopped him quicker.
