Nice to see his name mentioned ,he was a skilled fighter who allways gave us his best.Just didnt get the breaks.

 

Yep, the origional"Golden Boy" Also Frank "The Animal" Fletcher had a following. Alvaro"Yaqui" Lopez came oh-so-close.
Axel Shultz was popular in Germany & came very close to wining the Heavyweight Championship.

Tony Ayala. He was the talk of the pugilistic world before that ill-fated act.

Also, Emanuel Augustus hasn't won one of the big titles.

 

I would have to say Henry Cooper everyone in Britain loved him , I don't know why

He was mediocre really apart from his left hook, everyone loved Bruno as well. Then Lewis, a genuine great heavyweight came along we could claim and everyone disowned him. We've always loved an underdog in this country but we take it too far sometimes.

 

Too lazy to check, and he might be more of a cult favourite than a public admiration, but Ike Ibeabuchi for the Tua and Byrd fights I saw was good to watch.

 

Wonder if he become "Our Henry" before or after the Ali fight.

 

To be honest I thought it was before but it would explain alot if that was the fight that got him all the affection. I still dont think it was fully warranted.
