A Pacquiao win is MUCH better for boxing

    Before the Pac-haters attack me, answer this question...who has the better chance of landing on the cover of Sports Illustrated if they win, Pacquiao or Cotto? Answer honestly!

    I think that Pacquiao has the potential to raise the sport of boxing back to levels it was years ago. When is the last time that a fighter as exciting as Pacquiao has been on such a hot streak? A consistent hot streak?

    People were excited about Shane Mosley, and boom, he looses to Vernon Forrest. People were excited about Wlad Kilt, and boom, he looses to Corrie Sanders. People were excited about Ricardo Mayorga, and he looses to Corey Spinks...get my point?

    Pacquiao is on a hot streak. Okay, so is Mayweather and Calzaghe - neither one has ever lost, but their styles arent' nearly as exciting as Pac's.

    Nothing against Cotto, but I don't see how anyone who knows about boxing can deny that him winning would do a lot less for the sport of boxing as a whole as him losing. He just isn't as popular as Pacquiao, and his style isn't as exciting...and he isn't on a hot streak.

    Another question for Pac haters and "noob" haters...if Pacquiao beats Cotto and then Mayweather, would MMA even remotely be a threat for boxing? Could 2 wins by ANY other fighter in boxing cause that to happen?

    Bottom line...A Pacquiao win has the potential to shoot our sport into the stratosphere...

    Cotto would have a hot streak if he would have fought a shot decline De la hoya and 1 dimensional hatton beside facing Margocheater.

    I think whoever wins will be good or boxing. I know what your getting at and i understand it. Pacquiao has the tools to be the ambassador of the sport. The face of boxing but Cotto has what it takes to be that person as well.

    Also Cotto winning could be good to since Pac plans on retiring soon while Cotto still has a couple years in him.

    So being on sports Illustrated is great for the sport for Pacquiao if he beats Cotto? lol. Look behonest you saying this cause you're a biased bandwagon Pacquiao fan.

    I'm not baised. I have no problem with Cotto at all...I'm just stating the facts. And...I'm not and bandwagon Pacquiao fan. I have always like Pacquiao. Maybe you're on a bandwagon...the "oh, Manny's getting too popular, so let's hate him" bandwagon. Lots of people on ESB on that one...lol

    If Cotto moved up just 1 division to face DLH, i dont think he would've won. Cotto will be too drained if he faced Hatton at 140, giving 2 consecutive losses. Not really a hot streak.:bart

    hey im not gonna lie.... a pac win probably, PROBABLY... is better for boxings health then a cotto win, hes already cracking the barrier and crossing more and more into mainstream, which is great.

    That being said, usually i do go for whats best for boxing.... but on fight night, im a cotto fan, and all i care about is him winning impressively, and violently.... even if it doesnt fit the best case scenario for boxing as a whole.

    That being said... perhaps if they create a spectacular fight (i dont want my expectations too high for this fight, im just saying though) then a new star can be born in cotto. and in a way, that too... is good for boxing.

    Boxing is best the MORE stars they have, not just one face that carries it on its back...

    Right now its Mayweather and Pac..... if Cotto can beat Pac in the type of fight that leave fans crazy... you never know what that can do for ones career.

    I disagree...for true boxing fans a pac loss would be better...THERE ARE MANY OF US ON HERE THAT WANT TO SEE FLOYD AGAINST A ROUGH AND PHYSICAL MAN LIKE COTTO...I understand that Pac is riding those 2 victories over Hatton and Oscar AS HE SHOULD BE AND HAS EVERY RIGHT TOO!! BUT IF COTTO PULLS OFF THE W AGAINST PAC THAN HE SHOULD RIDE HIS W OVER PAC AS MUCH AS HE CAN...

    Why not Cotto fight a shot De la hoya at 147 pounds? I actually meant Cotto vs Hatton at 145 pounds.

    Considering that Pac-Mayweather would have a serious shot to be the highest selling ppv of all time, I'd have to agree.

    because what made it special was that Pac moved up 2 divisions to face DLH at 147. And fought Hatton at the division where he was the top man. Why would we compare the victory of Pac at divisions he has never fought at, to a Cotto victory in a division where he is currently the champ?

    All this sounds very innocent. But then comes the next step. In the words of Max Kellerman, market starts speaking. And you have discussions like 'Oh well, it looks like Cotto should have been given the nod, but a Pac win is much better for the sport'.

    Deserving fighters getting a win is what's best for boxing. I don't care how many more millions watch the fights. My goal is not to take over the world. I just want to watch exciting competitive fights.

    :clap: Couldn't have said it better. What would be even better for boxing is for Floyd, Pac, and Cotto all fight each other either way. And seeing as how Pac and Cotto are already fighting, its time for Floyd to jump in the mix
