A Pacquiao win is MUCH better for boxing

I love JMM but lets be real, he is 36 and father time is not on his side. Plus someone like Cotto could do some real damage to JMM if he isn't at the top of his game. I might change my mind after the Floyd fight but I seriously doubt he could fight at a higher weight as effectively as he did at 130 and or even 135.

 

But De la hoya won't be a shot weight drain fighter at 154 pounds.

 

Pac losing to Cotto would actually be good for boxing in the long run.

Pac winning would just mean Pac/Floyd and then it just ends.

Pac losing would mean Pac/JMM 3. Then Floyd/Cotto. Then winner of Floyd/Cotto vs. Mosley/Clottey...with that winner probably fighting winner of Pac/JMM 3.

That's not really what he's saying. He's not implying that should the fight go to the scorecards, Pac should get the nod because "it would be better for boxing". He's not saying that at all.

 

Who cares who wins, it's the same old story there is nothing wrong with Boxing's healthy...eh **** it I sound like a broken record stating my facts, I'm not gonna keep repeating it.

Anyway, who reads SI anyway? They are losing so many readers that they had that special deal with Madden. They are doing anything to get people to buy/read their product.

 

a pac loss might be good IMO for boxing. if he loses this one, he might have second thoughts about his other plans ( politics, acting, etc. ) and focus on boxing to regain his status. hell, he might even think twice about retiring early.

Maybe it's better for the sport long term if cotto wins. If Pacquiao only wants to box on for say another year, do we want him to beat more of these top guys and then retire leaving a void?

Lets say Cotto goes on to fight for another 5 years. Isn't it more important that Cotto wins and becomes THE poster boy for boxing thereby giving the sport the kind of positive coverage we're all thinking of for a longer period of time?

They're both great guys so either one winning is giving boxing a great role model. I can't wait for the fight.....

 

Great post. Cotto is a good little fighter. However, a Pac win combined with a Mayweather win would setup a mega fight that would bring a lot of attention to the sport. Pac is a very fan friendly fighter and can do a better job of elevating the sport than Cotto, IMO.

Cotto says he wants to retire around the age of 30. He's about to turn 29.

 

The title of this tread couldn't be more correct. A Pacquiao win and a Mayweather win could potentially lead to a true superfight between two legendary ATG fighters. You dont get too many of those kind of matchups with that much significance.

 

good theory, but i think floyd would rematch jmm then fight pac if cotto wins. in other words, he'd never fight cotto.

 

A Pacquiao win is good for everything.
