In the upcoming super six tournament, it is hard to imagine not needing a replacement at some point in time due to countless reasons. I have only heard of Allan Green as a possible, confirmed replacement. By confirmed, I mean only if the timing is right (given enough notice). Allan Green feels that he should be in there over Jermain Taylor. Taylor lost his last fight, so I can see where Green's coming from. However, Green lost to Miranda. It will take many more victories to wash that bad taste out.

Many feel that Lucian Bute should be in there. Bute's last 11 fights have all been in the SAME DAMN VENUE in Montreal. Before that, the rest were mostly in Montreal with exception to a trip to the U.S. early in his career and a trip to his homeland of Romania. Very limited in his travels. Very limited in his opposition as well. Other than Andrade, his biggest victory was over a reality television star. For those who think Sakio Bika shouldn't have been left out, well, he's the above mentioned star. Reality television? No wonder the rest of the world hates America.

Chad Dawson has not fought at super-middleweight for over 3 years (8 fights), Jean Pascal lost to Froch (so did Taylor, but Pascal moved up now), and Kelly Pavlik is just downright scared. This tournament would tear him up anyway, so he's smart to be scared. Besides, he's got welterweights to deal with right now. Other possible middleweights who could move up? Felix Sturm, Anthony Mundine....and I'm a little curious about this kid from France, Hassan N' Dam N' Jikam.

    Any thoughts or insight?

    Dawson cannot make weight.
Pavlik needs to gain self-confidence first.
Green doesn't really have the resume yet.
Bute is the obvious choice, but he has been reluctant to accept the risk.
Bika is good, but not super champ material.

Bika would be really entertaining. Could you imagine Bika v Froch or Bika v Abraham?
Dawson says he could still make 168: prove it.

Cool...so maybe you could be the one to explain to me why Pavlik isn't in this thing? We all know the manditory title thing is a lame excuse since he already fought Hopkins and Taylor at catch weights above 160, and we all know what belts mean anyway. Not to mention, the middleweight division has little to offer Pavlik.

Because if Pavlik got iced right out of the gate in the Super Six his PPV days would be over.

You mean WHEN he got iced right out of the gate right? Are his PPV days even still alive?

That is the question. Depends how he fares against Williams, should that fight actually happen. If he wins, which I think he will, then he's reborn. If he loses to Williams, he's ESPN2. The SMW tournament was too much risk with too little payoff.

What I wanna know is what happens in the third round if say 2 or even 3 of the fighters have already qualified? Might make the fighters less motivated if they know they are already through.

Theres only two logical choices, Bute and Andrade. Bute is a top 3 SMW and deserves a spot in there, he would be a great replacement and is obviously more deserving than most of the guys currently in the six. Andrade is excitement personified and matchups with Froch, Abraham and Taylor would be VERY interesting.

Yes, that too. I've thought about that for a while. And any one of these guys are a worthy opponent for any replacement as a desirable fight (as far as high profile fights go). I think if someone drops out, then 5 would be competing. But they would still have a spot to fill, which shouldn't be hard to do if/when needed, whether or not the replacement was competing in the tournament. But if so, the replacement(s) might as well get points for wins anyway.

Interesting you should mention that. These two are fighting each other right in the same time frame as the rest. If the winner, hypothetically, were to join the tournament later on...you could look back on Bute and Andrade as the 7th and 8th members of the tournament.
