I read something that said Areola is weighing in the 230's if that is the case....Do you think his condition will help him to wear down Vitali?

All the pics I have seen of Arreola show him in a sweat top,so I have been a bit suspicious of tales of him being up in the 250's.Maybe there has been a bit of kiddology here, lets hope so ,then we may have a fight after all.

yea they are saying Areola's people are saying he will weigh in at 260 but reports are that he is already 235.....If the boy's in shape and wants it...could be a good battle

It wasn't the weight of his tits and gut on their own was it?

Anyways, if it's true, it should certainly stand him in better stead.

I need photos to believe it.

If it ends up being true, than he has a better chance at winning this fight
    than I thought.

All I saw was this picture and basically lost any hope:

Hopefully he comes in at a reasonable weight but I tend to doubt it.

Hopefully it's true and he'll come in at a good weight, I'm looking forward to this fight and don't want to hear excuses from Arreola if he loses.

If VITLAY loses there'll be excuses I'm sure, there always is when a K brother loses but I'd like to think Arreola is better than that.

Even if he does come in lighter than normal, it won't mean that Arreola has developed his skills and stamina in such a short time.... Arreola is still green and raw...... Facts are facts.......... Klit by brutal KO within 6 rds......... Peace........

I stand by my statement that he will be in the 245lb range.

It's possible. He's weighed in the 230s as recently as 2007/2008.

But these pre-fight stories often amount to nothing. Tyson was 220 a week or two before he fought Lennox Lewis, according to him and the press.
And Lennox was "in the best shape of his career" and looking "better than ever" in training for the Vitali fight.

229 was the figure being floated around the most for Tyson in the build-up to the Lewis fight. He even weighed in on that at the gym the day before the weigh-in. Still think those scales were off a few pounds...Lewis looked very similar to Rahman II and Jimmy Lennon Jr was several pounds heavier than normal too when he was asked to test it. Still, I don't think the weight mattered so much in that fight, not as much as age and competition.

But anyway, Arreola. This is the first I've heard of 235, could be just propaganda. If true that's a hell of a lot better than expected, I'd say 235 should be the ceiling of what he should weight so not perfect but a lot better.

However, I agree with Sister Sledge, I reckon 245 seems more likely and something in the 250s even more so. He allowed himself to get into dreadful shape and it feels almost like this Vitali fight came as a surprise.

It will be skill and experience that matter most, not weight. For example Kirk Johnson weighed in at 260 with two sets of clothes on. Yes he was overweight, but it didn't cost him any stamina because the fight was over in less than 2 full rounds.

Some quotes from Arreola camps are way out there. They say he going to use lateral movement and work the body. He's not skilled at either, but to me this suggests they know he won't last long going toe to toe, and will get picked apart from long range.

I don't know how good Arreola is, but I think he's got better durability and heart over David Haye, and hits harder than say Chambers. Since he's undefeated and ranked in the top ten, this is an acceptable title defense.

225 was probably the figure I'm thinking of, rather than 220.
The New York Times reported May 21 (18 days before the fight) :

"His physique looks sharp, too, sleek and toned. He looks, as he once described himself, like ''the baddest man on the planet.'' He says he has been running five or six miles every day, has been diligent in gym workouts and is in great shape. He weighs about 225 pounds."

I doubt the scales were off. Lewis was less than 3 pounds heavier than the Rahman fight, and only 4 ounces heavier than the Tua fight, 12 ounces lighter than the Botha fight, and 1 3/4 pounds lighter than the 2nd McCall fight.

Tyson's "scales were off" in his previous fight too !

We can only hope this kid gets in some sort of respectable shape, for the image of the sport at least.
I'm not banking on it though.

I guess Jimmy Lennon Jr had just been pigging on the doughnuts that week, then.

Still, I didn't want to derail the thread about Tyson 2002, as said I would be surprised at 235 for Arreola because I think he's coming from too high a ceiling to get down there. I know he's 6'4" but he needs all the energy efficiency he can get...going up against a cardio machine like Vitali, who always manages to get off an impressive number of punches despite his size and weight.

Does anyone else feel that it's almost like Arreola was caught out by this Vitali fight, and was just taking it easy expecting a soft-touch warm up first?

Not that that's a good excuse either. But if you knew for certain you have a title shot next and nothing else, what kind of bonehead would kick back and start tucking into the pizzas?
