Even with 2 layers of clothing, JMM really looks small compared to Floyd...

When was the last time a top flight fighter took two years out of Boxing to then come straight back and beat up on one of the very best fighters in the world? Seldom has it happened. People are just automatically assuming that Mayweather had not missed a step, but layoffs do effect even the greatest of fighters. Muhammad Ali was never the same after his exile, and Ray Leonard, although he came back to beat Hagler, had to get up off the canvas against a journeyman fighter first. I will be looking on with intrigue on Saturday night.

Speed can be countered with timing, an aspect of this beautiful game that Marquez has mastered. I'm not convinced that Mayweather holds significant advantages in power, Marquez has been knocking out very good Lightweights as of late, whereas Mayweather has often hits fighters with everything but the kitchen sink and still only won on points.

Boxing is the theater of the unexpected, and I can remember telling myself the same things you're saying when the Oscar De La Hoya vs Manny Pacquiao fight was announced. We weren't to know that Oscar was going to have such issues with weight, and Manny capitalized on all the circumstances to thoroughly dominate a man who was twice his size and equally as skilled. Let's consider for one moment that Mayweather might have missed a step or two from a two year lay off. "All things can happen" as George Foreman would say.

You're a Manny Pacquiao fan aren't you? You of all people should be understanding what I'm saying.

Of course Floyd retired when Paul Williams started to sow terror in the welterweight division... That's why how I wished it was Floyd who fought Williams instead of Quintana... They're both welters and that fight could be hilarious seeing someone running away from a giant...:D:lol::rofl

Do you honestly believe Floyd Mayweather was afraid of Antonio Margarito and Paul Williams. This guy has done it all. He went to the olympics and he was successful. He's moved through five weight divisions and took on huge punching Diego Corrales who was undefeated at the time. He's took on granite in the form of Jose Luis Castillo, and Oscar De La Hoya was a full blown 154lbs man when he fought him for all that money. Mayweather is not intimidated by Antonio Margarito or Paul Williams, it just doesn't make business sense. Williams is a hell of a fighter, but he isn't a household name. Neither was Margarito.

I realise I sound like a Floyd supporter, I'm not really, it just always annoys me when people insinuate that professional fighters are afraid. It just isn't true.

Sugar Ray fought Hagler straight from a 3 years retirement... Of course SRL is a great boxer while Floyd is not (yet)...

You try to compare JMM to Floyd as what PAC did to Oscar but you forget that PAC has one advantage over Oscar that JMM does NOT have over Floyd and that's speed... PAC's speed overwhelmed Oscar... What does in JMM you think will overwhelm Floyd?? His heart and guts, I think it's not enough...

Floyd is not afraid of Mosley, Williams and Margacheato but it seems he's not interested in fighting them when in fact those were bigger competitive fights than the one from an older, slower boxer from 2 divisions down...

He did indeed, but not before he first attempted a comeback after a two year absence against Kevin Howard. He got dropped, struggled, and this caused him to fall back into retirement. Hagler was not a shot fighter, but he was there for the taking against a faster fighter in Ray Leonard. That remains one of the biggest comebacks and upsets in recent Boxing history as far as I'm concerned. These victories don't happen very often.

The comparison I'm making is quite simple. Forget about the differences in speed, and styles - that's not the point I was trying to make. In Boxing, upsets happen often. Mosley was seen as cannon fodder for Margarito by the majority here at ESB, and we all saw Shane take Margarito apart brutally. We all saw Bernard Hopkins pose a shutout over rising star Kelly Pavlik, and we all saw Pacquiao do a similar thing against Oscar De La Hoya.

Under normal circumstances, there'd be no real reason to expect an upset with Juan Manuel Marquez vs Floyd Mayweather Jr. But he has came back from a two year absence, and even if he's been training all this time, sparring and what not can never substitute fighting real competition. Floyd is faster, bigger, and perhaps even a little bit more complete a fighter than Juan - but the mind is a very powerful thing. Some fighters are on top of their game one minute, and their gone the next. Cristian Mijares was a recent casualty, and on the receiving end of an upset over Vic Darchinyan.

All to often we get Boxing fans on here coming out and making bold statement like, "No way will so and so win this fight. I already know what's going to happen, no point paying for the PPV - it's a mismatch". The last time I heard talk like that was Oscar De La Hoya vs Manny Pacquiao. He should not have won that fight, and you'd have to talk to Snell, Enzo, or Soriano to find reasons as to why Manny had a chance. He defied logic, really, and Juan can do the same. If Mayweather is a little bit slower than usual, his timing maybe a little off, he can capitalize. Believe it.

You cannot predict what will happen in Boxing.

    Clueless as usual again.

The time when Mayweather retired Williams was already signed to fight Quintana and was showing far more interest in fighting Cotto than Mayweather.

If your knowledge is beyond pathetic I honestly suggest that you shut the **** up and avoid being a troll. No such thing as running in boxing, it's all about movement and defense. Pacquiao used the same tactics against Morales, Barrera(rematch), DLH and was slowly doing the same against Hatton as well who couldn't handle his power.

Surely you would think Eze saying the difference is as big as people make it be would make you laugh, correct?

That would make you laugh but claiming Mayweather hired people to drive his car and go around the neighborhood shooting people because they didn't buy tickets. That makes sense, but Eze saying the difference in size isn't THAT big is preposterous.

If there aren't "much" in those pics why start yet another failing and pathetic hate thread?
