Can I ask what the rationale for having Rafa Marquez in the P4P rankings is? Vazquez isn't there, so presumably there are some time limitations in force. Marquez doesn't have a win against world class opposition in 30 months, was in a couple of wars followed by a year long lay off and is fighting at a higher weight. Don't see how one win against poor opposition can possibly prove anything? Agree with AndyZOR that Adamek should be cruiserweight champion. Stripping someone for taking a fight is illogical. Adamek fought Banks in February, if he'd fought no-one at all to this point you wouldn't have stripped him. How can you be stripped for fighting someone as opposed to fighting no-one (especially when a number of fighters turned the fight down)? Champions should be stripped for who they don't fight rather than who they do and Adamek is not avoiding anyone. More of a case to strip Pavlik imo.
We had this debate before, Cobbler. Rafa had a tune-up so he is technically an 'active' fighter whereas Izzy and PBF aren't. We set out a timeframe of 1 full year to decide when to drop a fighter due to inactivity.
Removing Adamek as champ because he fought Bobby Gunn is a pretty stupid reason....now he has to beat Cunningham again if he wants to be champ That makes little sense. If he had faced some other random bum who you hadnt heard before he would have stayed exactly where he was.... Who actually agreed to that? Just making your own ranking rules as you go along. Also Moras not fought for a year now......time for him to go
I agree on Adamek, when you install a champion you have to be willing to 'ride out' the odd poor defence (at the very least!) before you even consider stripping him.
I believe Rob has remembered it wrong. The ESB CW Champ status wasn't given to Adamek as Haye had left it vacant. He wasn't stripped. Feel free to debate it, I'm not too fussed on Adamek as CW is a fairly uninteresting division at the moment.
I thought that Adamek was made champ for beating 2 out of the top 3/4 guys in the division (or whatever USS and Banks were ranked at the time)? I think thats def. enough to fill a vacant title.
These are fan rankings and if there is one thing fans hate most its champions fighting a bum because there ranked top 15 by an alphabet. the reason Pavlik was not stripped for fighting Lockett and Rubio is because they were mandatories. we all agreed that you cannot strip a champion for a mando but you can strip him if he fights someone outside deemed unacceptable by the fans. Gunn is unacceptable opposition for the ESB champ. Mora has not fought for over a year now and has no fight scheduled, he should be taken out and replaced by Angulo. btw the P4P was voted for over a 3 week period, if you dont like it you should have voted there and then. We will probs don another voting process before the end of the year.
If any of the ESB champs fight a guy that is not in the top 10 rankings, that is not a mandatory, then the forum members will vote on whether they should remain champion. In the case of Adameck, the majority agreed that he should be stripped.
1) I didn't comment of the P4P rankings 2) WTF is THAT attitude for? I'm expressing an opinion on Adamek (that I did express at the time the rankings were compiled). Nothing else.
I've obviously forgotten that debate then- maybe that was a suggestion that I'm remembering then. Either way, I'm not bothered what happens with Adamek's status in the rankings as I see reasons for both arguements.
Then thats a harsh call IMHO. He's a lot less then a year away from having fought a top guy and he gets stripped for taking a soft one to stay busy??? He'd still be champ if he didn't fight.... But if thats what people decided....
Adamek has within the past nine months fought the guy that was considered the number one in the division and another legitimate contender. Pavlik hasn't fought a legitimate threat at middleweight since he won the titles 2 years ago. It's not logical to strip a champion for fighting low quality opposition when you wouldn't strip him for sitting at home on his sofa having a well earned rest.
I agree Cobbler, its a crazy situation where Adamak would have still been Champ if he'd have sat on his arse and done nothing instead of taking a fight to stay active.
You have made good points. Adameck should remain champion. If he looses to Golota it will bring up an interesting debate. btw i do think Adameck is so over rated its unreal so i might be overly bias. Adameck as champ. you must all agree that Gunn is unacceptable???
