I only watched a bit of TUF, where was Kimbo picked and what teams he on? Rampage? Was he one of the top picks?
He was Rampage's first pick, and he even said that once Kimbo came out, "He's my first pick, I got my man Kimbo right there". When Dana said the guys would train for two hours and then teams would get picked, Rampage went to him and said "You don't have to do **** cause you're on my team if you want a spot, you ain't got to train" and Kimbo said "Hell yeah I wanna be on your team, but I'm here man I wanna train" so he still trained.
Rampage came from the streets. He's the same as Kimbo. He's not a guy who's ever had a ton of technique. He's just a seasoned pro who came from the street and liked to fight. Thats probably why he see's alot of himself in Kimbo. The thing is once you know how to fight you know how to fight. Alot of these NFL guys in TUF are just meatheads who've watched a few UFC's and think they have what it takes to hang in the fight leagues. Personally i think Kmbo is going to show a few people up. He has nothing to loose whatsoever.
Funny. What exactly about that isn't a huge leap from describing Kimbo Slice the same way? An ex-football player who thinks he could be an MMA'er.
You ever heard Kimbo say he wanted to be a mixed martial artist? When that dude was fighting and the video's appeared on Youtube it was for one reason only. To get paid. Kimbo has never sought notoriety. It was Gary Shaw that saw a major opportunity to make some money off the internet sensation that was Kimbo. If that opportunity had been boxing or MMA or any fighting sport that enabled him to get paid he would have done it regardless.
GAD: Do you wish youd started training earlier in life ? KIMBO: Lord, yes, I really didnt know anything about MMA for a long time. Im glad how things have gone but if I had been training in this sport for ten years, or as long as Randy Couture has, Id be a different fighter altogether. Even half the time he has. Id have been a threat in the UFC heavyweight division for a decade. Believe me.
You do know that training for being a mixed martial artist career, makes you a mixed martial artist, right? Especially when you get paid to do that, right? You don't have to say you want to be it, if you're actually doing it, right?
I have heard Kimbo say that he has love for the sport of MMA, and that he wants to make a career out of it. He actually said that he was going to make a run in boxing because he loves boxing too... but MMA is harder and he loves the sport. I don't see why that would be a negative against him. If he didn't love and respect the sport I wouldn't like him. I don't have anything against him and I hope he does well. I suspect that he will probably catch a beating though.
The haters pile on Kimbo, therefore I will be cheering for him. But his ground game is woeful, and unless he developed a Liddell like take down defense before the show, he'll be lucky to win 2 fights.
Doesn't even matter. He has no stamina. He might stuff one or two, but he'll eventually get taken down.
