Would you hate this man if he was just coming up through the ranks about to get a title fight and you knew nothing about him? "The champ of the world shouldn't be that ugly." Honestly, yes I probably would. No one should be allowed to talk trash until they actually accomplish something in the sport.
True, just talking hypothetically though. Trying to imagine that type of character entering the boxing world today.
Todays David Haye, yeah i would probably not have liked him at this time in his career! But its a little hard now, when we know today he WAS the real deal!
He'd be as popular as Audley Harrison They'd say he's all hype & only if Tyson was around too shut him up ect:smoke
I saw on a Philippine sports documentary on the 25th anniversary of the "Thrilla In Manila", it showed there that the Filipino fans were split in half about the fight. Half loved Ali and rooted for him, and about half thought he was too cocky and liked Frazier better because he was more humble and was a religious Christian man. (They werent hating on Ali 'cause he's muslim though. The Philippines is about 90% catholic)
I'd hate him too. Good doc. Follow links. atsch Yeah, the similarities between Haye and Ali are just uncanny. I watched Haye get beaten by Thompson and thought "Damn, Haye's skill remind me so much of Ali it aint funny!" I saw Haye run from the best fighters in the division, and thought "That reminds me so much of Ali taking on Liston, Foreman and Frazier". I saw Haye repeatedly not backing up what he said and thought "That level of conviction reminds me of Ali going to jail for his religious beliefs" I saw Haye throwing up empty, painful and brainless bragging bull**** and thought "That reminds me of the lyrical poetry of Ali, and his wickedly pointed verbal barbs that demonstrated real wit too" **** me dead. I am sitting here in real life slapping my forehead at just how stupid some people are. atsch
With that clip, it's all pretty clearly clowning, though the "ugly" shot is kinda low. When I would have thought he'd crossed the line was showing up at the guy's house with a bus and banner saying "ugly bear". Then I would have thought he was just being an ass. Rushman... calm down. I'm sure the guy was just talking about the t-shirt stunt. Nice job completely taking something out of context then blaming others for their stupidity. A job is slop journalism awaits.
I think Sonny was unnerved by Ali, he had no idea what to expect and it knocked him off any gameplan he wished to employ.. Ali moved well and Sonny was almost hypnotosed by the way Ali approached the bout.. Sonny had lost all control of his usual intimidation tactics and it made him feel quite vulnerable and less than powerful in the actual event.. Ali put a spell on Charles and it cost him his title...
Ali was hated BADLY in his prime and some people were actually HAPPY he got suspended. What made Ali great is he fought through that and didn't give two shits, the public never hurt his feelings to perform bad in the ring. That's a great mentality for you.
I disliked Clay since Moore...and there he was on TV bragging about the twist cutting jab he learned for Cooper. Being a stupid 12 year old thought that was unfair for a man supposedly so much better.
Would have wanted him to get sparked out, that's for sure. In fact for most of his career would have wanted him to get sparked out.
