Another tough matchup for Lyle. How come he was never put in with the gimmes and never seems to be in potential matches either? The guy was always in against the tough to ko opponents/guys with tools and here he is again against a guy with a lot of tools. About the best Ronnie could do with Lewis is hang in there and give an Ali type performance where he does well for awhile before the end comes.
Lyle was as good as Rahman and McCall, and demonstrated incredible superior heart. So it's not necessarily an easy night for Lewis. I'd favour Lewis though, he beat a few more men that were on Lyle's level. Lewis is grossly overrated on this forum but was definitely a solid and consistent performer and an undisputed world heavyweight champion. Lyle's less bankable.
I am English but to be honest,Lewis bored me in a few fights,he was way too cerebral for me.I do think he is a very difficult match up for just about any heavyweight though.
Lyle would have a big punchers chance in this one. But if Lennox didnt get caught he ko's Lyle or beats him on points.
Lewis would be too much for Lyle just like he was to much for Rahman and McCall. Lyle is overrated yet Lennox Lewis isn't? Beating a washed up Holyfield proved what? Struggling like hell against Frank Bruno and Shannon Briggs is impressive huh? If Lyle could drop Foreman then a glancing blow would knock out Lewis.
More than any of Lyle's wins proved. Much more impressive than getting outboxed by Jimmy Young(twice) and a washed up Jerry Quarry, or getting blasted out quick by Lynn Ball, yes. So would Jimmy Young KO Lewis as well?
Jimmy Young didnt knockout Foreman. But if Lennox Lewis came into a fight out of shape and not preparaed for the heat like Foreman did then he would be knocked down After Lyle lost to Foreman he was done. Lynn Ball beat a washed up Ron Lyle and I would rather be outboxed 2 times by a guy like Jimmy Young then knocked out my ass back a coke addict like Oliver McCall and a nobody like Hasim Rahman. Lyle also beat Shavers and Bonavena I believe and neither were washed up like Holyfield was when Lewis beat him. Even then Lewis ran like a girl in their fights from a man he was much larger than and who was done as a top level fighter.
Neither did Lyle. I'd rather prove I was good enough to beat an opponent than be 0-2. Bonavena was. Shavers wasn't, but was inferior to guys that were, ie: Quarry. No he didn't, he had Holy on the ropes for much of their first fight.
Lewis was knocked out 2 times be lesser fighters, Most of you people think Shavers was the hardest punching heavyweight of all time. Lyle got tagged by him went down and got up and won. Lewis was tagged by McCall and Rahman who are inferior punchers and stayed down. Lyle also turned pro at 29 i believe and he fought in one of if not the best era for heavyweights. Lewis fought in a great era for heavyweight but never fought any of them when they were at their peak. Are you trying to tell me if Lyle would be iced with one punch by Rahman or McCall in his prime? Give me a break, even if they could knock him down he wouldnt be knocked out with one punch like Lewis was. I can't name another modern heavyweight besides Lewis who was knocked out 2 times in title fights with one punch. I can't name another modern heavyweight besides Tyson who never got up off the canvas to win a fight once they were knocked down. Lewis is highly overrated in this boxing forum
