Boxing fans have short-term memories. The majority of boxing fans wanted the Hatton-Mayweather showdown until the fight was made. Imagine if Floyd chose not to fight Hatton. You think boxing fans today wouldn't accuse Mayweather of ducking Hatton? It's funny watching boxing fans become revisionists.

 

Yeah, Floyd and his matchmakers miraculously knew that Corrales would be weight-drained for their match despite him fighting at 130 his entire career.

 

Margarito has since validated Floyds claims that he “was not ready” to fight Mayweather, by resporting to CHEATING, and then being DESTROYED by Mosley. Floyd had every right to turn him down, and it proved to be a great decision.


That said, Hatton was supposedly a formidable opponent, but like so many others worthy of sharing a ring with Floyd, he was taken down with relative ease.

 

He said "his opponents have been well picked for him". But he also, right before that, said "He will go down as one of the greatest". It's a balanced assessment: Floyd is a great fighter and has been well-managed. Ali was well-managed too and carefully picked his opponents, but he was still great.

 

Please don't compare Floyd and Ali especially in terms of a resume. Ali took risked and fought all the time fighting the best of the best. During his reign as champion who fought across Europe and fought more often than any other HW champion. Then, when Frazier had the belt he was fighting and beating everyone at a much faster pace with Frazier to force Frazier to have to just fight him... well he lost. He beat Frazier than went after Foreman.

Ali was only carefully managed on the way up, but that's what all managers do or should do. That's how everyone starts out.

Floyd consistently seems to shy away from taking the big risks. Now that he thinks he's everything he probably feels he deserves every advantage whether it be in pay or in rulings.

 

Ali was carefully managed throughout his career. It's just that he was so good that it was justifiable to put him in with plenty of quality opponents. As he got older, he made a lot of money with mismatches against the likes of Coopman, Dunn, Evangelista, Wepner, Leon Spinks etc. while still fighting some very good challengers. But he was always managed carefully and if he'd trained well enough he might have only ever lost against Frazier.

Floyd's resume isn't impressive but he wasn't more carefully managed. Look at the Castillo rematch or the DLH fight: both unnecessary risks comparable to the less careful decisions of Ali's career, eg. Ali-Norton II or Ali-Frazier III.

You really can't take anything Hatton says seriously anyway because the imbecile has a habit of saying incredibly moronic things.Remember in the 2 months leading up to the Pacquiao fight,he kept saying(referring to himself in the 3rd person while doing it) how after he beat Pac,he'd be the #1 p4p fighter in the world.
