Hand speed is one of the few things which comes mostly naturaly, like people who run 100m in under 10 secs, your average joe can't train for that. Just keep shadow boxing, somtimes with weights and practice the floor to celling ball, more for hand-eye coordinatiion than anything.

Shadowbox slowly focusing purely on technique and speed (and power) should come naturally.

And also, this isn't an exercise but make sure you're Muscles are always relaxed and never tensed up, and that you always warm up properly as well, when Blood gets pumped to a Muscle this causes it to dilate and become more flexible, increasing Speed.

Curly thats rubbish, If he trains for speed he will get faster. The same way if he trained to run faster, using correct technique and weights etc then he'd run faster.

Try firstly correcting your technique as much as possible then practice shadow boxing faster. Make sure your technique is correct at all times. Also as a previous poster said try and relax your shoulders also, that can help.

Hand speed is one of the easiest things to develop.

Just make sure you are relaxed and stretched and warmed up properly. Really the best way to improve speed is make sure you are using proper technique and the rest is just muscle memory. However I wouldn't focus too much on trying to find ways to improve speed, as it is mainly a natural thing. If people say your fast now, it'll probably stay true throughout your life in boxing(until you get old) but if your not very fast now. You probably won't ever be that fast. We can't all be Roy Jones, lots of ur speed is natural. I'm not saying you can't improve it at all, but its harder to improve than things such as stamina and technqiue and overall conditioning. You should focus mainly on those.

Ressistance Stretching is the answer, bad muscle alinement stops Speed with it you cant get the Biomechanics of movement to perform as they should.

To perfect the Technique. Its what I done (as well as warming up properly) and Speed started to come naturally, never had to force it. Dunno if Genetics plays a part though.

i understand that speed is mostly natural and i'm not saying i think i can be like roy jones but i already have pretty quick hands and good technique i was just wandering if there are any specific exercises for developing speed

  10. That sounds interesting.

If it isn't natural for you to move fast...

Then Speed comes with experience of developed proper technique. And it is driven by a well looked after high powered engine.

Shadow boxing is the most important thing next to putting it into practice. You have to start slow and plan how your action could be faster in the real movement- training your body and mind to remember how to do the movements instinctively by heart. Practice looking for the quickest and smoothest option in all aspects of your training.

Study the speedsters mechanics and way of thinking, watch the training of the elite speedsters - Ali, RJJ, Mayweather, Sugar Ray Leonard for starters. Look at their position in space, where their distance is from the opponant. Speedsters typically have good awareness of the distance of their opponant.

Dont get lazy when tired, Fire combinations and always keep the arms moving. and try keep those twitch fibres fired up.
You must also train for great fitness, if you're a boxer who relies on speed and you become tired. You're meat to a harder brutal fighter.

Keep up with polymetric exercises using major muscle groups, fast speed bag and skipping. resistance training is good too. Being fast at anything in life means you have put in a great amount of work into something and know instinctively how to do it.

I'm no expert and mumbled on a bit but hope it helps.

shadowboxing with light weghts personally i found good, do rounds of shadowboxing/bag work/pad work/sparring only focusing on generating speed, forget about power just throwingyour combos as fast as possible kind of like the calzaghe pitty pat shots it will help

Work on relaxation, perfecting technique, make sure you have sufficient general strength, do directed exercises for boxing involving medicine balls and some with resistance tubing. Progress into sport specific exercises. If you have sufficient strength in all groups, good relaxation, and strong technique, you will have good speed.

Funnily enougth speed isnt a natural thing. Case in point I had the guy with the fastest reflexes ever tested in Britain 1/ 6000 th of a second. yet He was the slowest Fighter in the gym, interesting
