Anybody else impressed with Marquez despite being dominated?

i think he respected Floyd's power too much...maybe for good reason though

 

i thought hatton performed better on offense then marquez did against floyd...

 

If floyd wanted too he could have marquez out of there!
Buy yes marquez did connect better than hatton did! He landed some good punches!
Floyd was the better last night thats it!

 

no i did not notice that, i seen he had the heart to stand up.but dissected floyd is a little far fetched.jmm was out classed to me and the size never made a difference.it was the speed and the skill level that jmm had no answer for.he was good enough to go all 12 but that was about it.

mayweather could have been any weight, he just a better fighter jmm.jmm is just not the one to beat mayweather.is real good not great.

Mayweather landed 185 jabs and 105 power punches. His connect percentage was the same for both jabs and power punches, at 59%. He began to land the lead right in the second half of the fight after he got Marquez looking for the left hook. It was different from the usual mayweather fight, in that he did not throw a ton of lead rights, but after a two year layoff I imagine he wanted to use everything in his arsenal.

Marquez looked game, but never terribly impressive. This isn't to take anything away from Marquez, who is a great fighter, and certainly lasted longer than some would have, but he looked outmatched from the first bell to the last.

And, really, if you can't stop a guy from snapping your head back with 59% of the jabs he throws how can you expect to get close enough to land anything? He couldn't solve the most basic punch in Mayweather's arsenal (probably because he wasn't expecting it, as Mayweather hasn't used it much recently) so he doesn't get a whole lot of credit for finally learning to keep his right hand up after getting hit with flush lead left hooks for the first three rounds of the fight.

Marquez is a great great fighter, but he looked totally out of his element, was comprehensively beaten, and never gave any indication that he had any chance of winning the fight.

 

I was impressed that he went the distance. Impressed that despite being the smaller man he stepped in the ring with a young, prime fighter, who was again bigger than him. Its easy to look impressive when your opponent can't hurt you.

I don't know which broadcast people watched but I saw the Sky with UK commentators and they were incredibly biased towards floyd from the first second. I had to turn it off by about round 5 because it was so annoying. Don't get me wrong, Floyd won the fight easily, but the Sky team were talking out their arses...they even managed to compliment Floyd when missed a punch and then proceeded to put down JMM after he landed cleanly. They seemed so intent on swinging off Floyd's nut sack that they didn't have a single ounce of objectivity, atrocious commentating to say the least.

On a side note, even though I had Floyd ahead by a wide margin, I saw him get hit a few more times cleanly than I remember in his previous few fights.

 

JMM is alot smaller.. Hatton was alot stronger, inside especially!!

 

100% right. he lost all his strength's because the jump in weight when will people realize that.

I mean they tell you how bad Hatton was when he jumped up.

You can see the difference when guys like Hearns, Dela Hoya, Leonard were when they jumped up.

Putting on weight makes you slower and lets be honest.

If say just your average block that ran every day put on 15 pounds then started the same schedule that he had been doing for years you think he wouldnt be slower when he Ran or exercised in the morning.

JMM did well I even wanted him to win but you could tell when going past 135 he looked well OLD.

 

:deal I agree. When i first watched the fight it was through a stream, but now that ive watched a HQ quality version it appears that mayweather was having alot of his work nullified by marquez's skills. Even though mayweather had a plethora of physical advantages over marquez, marquez still managed to fend off a mayweather stoppage and get mayweathers respect. The way people were going on about the fight on these boards, it seemed like mosley vs margarito 2 but that is far from what actually happended.

Mayweather is mayweather, but he should have stepped on the gas late in the fight to stop marquez or at least try to do so. The problem appeared to be that when PBF let more than 2 go at a time, marquez would be in the fight. Nevertheless a dominating performance by floyd but a bout with pacquiao will be an entirely different story despite PBF having about 5-10lbs on the pacman (body shapes of JMM and PBF looked similar to tito and hopkins).

 

I am impressed, the man kept trying till the end, how is that embarrassing when almost everyone thought he will get KO'd cold in 5 rounds at most.

 

The only thing that impressed me was his heart. He never broke mentally. Even when it was clear he was getting hit more and more, and that he was losing pretty much every round, he kept reminding Mayweather (and the audience, and especially the idiotic British commentators) that he wasn't there to take it and lay down. He came right back with combinations, and I never saw his desire to win die.

Apart from that it was pretty much dire, though. Nothing was working for him. He DID land one or two beautiful right hands, though -- and Mayweather tried to smile them off, but that in itself was a clear indicator that he'd been unexpectedly tagged with good, crisp punches.
