mayweather weight advantage

I don't feel weight had anything to do with the outcome of this fight. Floyd won this fight because he was to fast and to slick for Marquez. Marquez was outboxed and outclassed Saturday night and that's all it really was. In my opinion Marquez could have come in at the Super Middleweight limit and the outcome would have been the same. Power issues aside, Floyd could have beaten nearly anyone in boxing Saturday night, even those in heavier weight divisions.

If weight affected anyone it was Marquez. He was slower than he normally is and the moderate power he does have didn't seem to carry up to the heavier weight division but the fact remains, you can't kill what you can't catch.

Look, though I have a huge amount of respect for Floyd's boxing ability, I'm not really a fan of fighters who consider putting on boxing clinics a victory. I like fighters who go for the kill and who aren't content with a points win but I will say this. Floyd's boxing ability is far above that of Marqez's as well as the majority of boxers in any era. He may take "safe" fights and he may not finish fights as often as he could and should, and many people may believe he avoids fighters whom he feels don't offer him an assured victory but I'll say it again, weight played no part in Floyds win Satuday night.

IMO Mayweather would have beaten Marquez at any weight and time period (even when Marquez was at his best). It obviously would not have been as easy but put simply pbf is and has always been better than marquez. If marquez came in 2 or even 4lbs over at any weight he would still loose.

 

Weight had nothing to do with the clinic PBF gave out Saturday night. The difference in the level of skill was appartent from the opening bell. Also it's not like PBF uses his strenght and size to beat people he uses pure skill.:deal

Weight is the only excuse for Mayweathers haters to hold on to. And it is a very weak one.

I just don't see how logically you can argue that the 2 pounds made any difference. Yes, and I'd think everyone would agree that the move up in weight to take the fight put Marquez at a huge disadvantage. It is well known that Marquez has failed to cash in over the years and I'd bet that this was probably his biggest pay day in his career. With or without the extra 600k.
So he takes a fight where he knows that he'll probably get his ass handed to him for the pay day. I would to. There was no downside other for Marquez. If he losses so what Mayweather should beat him. If he wins he'll get a few more huge pay days and be considered an all time great.
He'll still be considered an All time great Lightweight. One of boxing's best fighters of this era.

So... saying that the 2 pounds prior to the fight matters is nonsense. It was the 7 pound he had to move up from his previous fight, his age, Mayweather speed/quickness and the five inch reach advantage for Mayweather that determined the outcome.

 

a. Mayweather won because he is better, and the fact that Marquez is smaller had some influence. A lot of influence had the fact that Marquez had to move up 2 divisions, not the 2 pounds of the weigh in.

b. JMM is a hall of famer but not an all time great at LW.

 

Mayweather will have weighed a lot more than 146 in the ring, Marquez would probably have weighed little more than 142. A big difference on fight night.

However, it was Mayweather's speed and skill which won him the fight.

 

I think you answered all my points in your post.

All I am saying is this is not a natural weight for Marquez, that's all. PBF is a bigger guy. I don't care if at the weigh-in there was only a two pound difference.

Would Mayweather beat a naturally larger version of Marquez? Yes IMO

Marquez at any weight wouldnt beat mayweather. I do think in certain situations 2 pounds could effect things but in this fight mayweather was gonna win no matter what. Marquez didnt look good at 135. Why anybody would think he could go up 10 lbs and fight someone with 10x the speed and do any better is beyond me.
