Pac has proven to be fast @ 147. Marquez obviously was effected by the weightgain. Pac def has a chance, although I pick Mayweather to win. Great fight, any Pac fight is. Cotto will prevail in fight of the year. Bring Mayweather to Cotto or Shane next!
Bull****. Mayweather is fine fighting on angles, he is certainly quickly enough in his footspeed and upper body movement to keep up with Pac and, most importantly, against taller fighters Pac must slip punches to get inside to land. That's where he shows the angles. Mayweather won't give him anything to slip other than a snappy jab because Mayweather will not engage Pac until Pac has already commited to throwing. Then Mayweather will counter him and move out of range again. If Pac was a bit bigger it would be a better fight, but with the reach and size disadvantage coupled with Mayweather's superb accuracy, defense, and counterpunching, Pac just doesn't have a real shot in this fight. He ends up stuck on the end of Mayweather's jab and right straight lead(which will land before Pac's left because of the reach advantage) for much of the fight and eating counters when he does get in close and manages to throw because he still tends to overcommit and end up off balance and Mayweather is quick enough to make him pay for it, whereas his more recent opponents have not been able to. And given Mayweather's defense and apparent ability to take a punch I don't give Pac much in the way of a puncher's chance. I'm so tired of the repeated "speed, angles, power" mantra regarding Pac. Those are not attributes that solve every problem and boxing, though they will solve quite a few. Mayweather just happens to be one of the problems they don't solve. No disrespect to Pac, he's a great great fighter and an exciting guy, but he's just not built to fight a guy of Mayweather's size, style, and abilities.
the one thing that pac has is that killer left- from a southpaw stance. Floyd can pick off most guys with ease- but his two toughest fights have been two southpaws- burton and judah. i think floyd will have the upper hand in most of the exchanges- because- he does not exchange- but i do think pac has a very very good chance of catching floyd here and there- he s so erratic and unpredictable that he can get a left and a right hook in there before floyd expects it. the thing with floyd- ironically - the better the boxer you are- the more techincally sound you are against him- the easier floyd beats you. because he can anticipate what you are going to do ( his mitt work is basicaly chorography to train him to anticipate). however against an unorthodox, southpaw, and unpredictable fighter you may have a shot. the two types of fighters i always thought could beat floyd were a long large welter, like a hearns, leonard, wiliams, mosley, with a killer jab OR an unpredictable speedy power puncher- ala judah or pac. dont forget judah took 4 rounds off of floyd . someone dosnet need to destroy floyd to beat him- we know how hard floyd is to knock down- and even beat up. i think this fact puts off alot of people- they think if he cant be hurt- he cant be beat. ridiculous- u just need to score more than he does. if he stinks up the joint- stink it up with him- and 4 jabs to his 3. just get one more round- and i think pac is capapble of getting 6 rounds off of him.
Manny will throw his regular 3 punch combo and Floyd will just roll until he sees an opening ..I thought this prior to satrurday night as well .. Floyd is not Hatton who will try to over power him and Floyd will not go down in weight where he is draind like OSCAR .Though the only way I see anyone breaking Floyd's guard is with streight punches ..I don't think Manny is that fighter based on size ...But why entertain this Cotto is playing spoiler ..
Good point by the TS. However, I can't imagine how Pac would beat PBF. Both probably has the same speed, but, with Floyd's longer reach, good defense and jab, that would negate Manny's speed. PBF was huge during the Marquez fight, looks like he can also take Manny's power.
You're looking at it the wrong way. It took Floyd about 3 rounds to figure out Judah out. By about round 4 he had timed the left straight, figured out how to get his own right in, and was breaking making Judah uncomfortable. A few rounds after that he was walking Judah down and Judah had no answer. You can't beat Floyd by employing the same strategy the whole fight. He's not a fighter who wins every round, but he's a fighter who absolutely knows how to win a fight, and he does it by ad******g to his opponent. You are absolutely correct in your last paragraph. A fighter with the right tools who was also willing to fight the way Floyd does...willing to stink up the joint, as it were...would have a shot to beat Floyd on the cards by doing just a little more than he does in enough rounds to count. But Pac is not that fighter. He's simply not adaptable or mreasured enough to pull that strategy off. TBH Judah, were he mentally stronger, had the tools to beat Floyd in a relatively boring, technical fight that went to the cards.
Zab Judah is a counter puncher. HE had success for a couple rounds countering Floyd coming in. That is not what Pacquaio does. Comparing Judah and Pac as southpaws would be like comparing Marquez and Morales.
And Manny is not Hatton or the bloated JMM or the old Oscar that Floyd fought. The thing is Manny is a south paw. Floyd had some troubles with southpaws before. Manny is not an ordinary southpaw. He has quick hands. Faster than Floyd IMO, 3-4 combinations will put Mayweather in the defensive position. Pacquiao may find an openning on Floyd's defense. Floyd's left hand is always down(I know, that's for the shoulder roll.) The shoulder roll may not work well on a southpaw. Anyway the only way for us to know who's gonna be KOing whom is when they ****ing fight. The fight may happen if Pacquiao beat Cotto on the 14 of November.
This is the toughest fight of Pac's career, after Cotto. Two tough fights Back-to-back then retirement. Not sure he could beat Cotto.Manny is testing himself. But everything pts to Floy being too slick...Pacquiao will try to press Floyd but he will run into slick jabs and rights or left hooks...Pac will try to make a brawl.Floy is just too slick and has all quick counter moves and the defense is too much.
I think this is a solid post with good points. He's not being brash and predicting something huge, he just presented some opinions which are pretty much on point as to why Pacquiao could give him trouble. There is no doubt Pacquiao is quicker, he is somebody that can fair better at higher weights, he is more aggressive, and IMO the only way you can beat Mayweather is by being aggressive in a smart way. You can't ****ing counter this guy all night with his reflexes. You've got to be aggressive, but in an educated manner, history shows you can get some success that way.
What south paws in particular are we talking about ? Floyd no matter what made the adjustment I have yet to see Manny be that type of fighter he may pull back but its in and out with strafing ..Im not going to disagree whole hearidly on the speed issue ..Manny's hand speed is fast enough to catch Floyd but unless its a 2 or 3 punch combo Manny will have a hard time catching that target .. Oh and if you want to talk comp didn't these two basically fight the same people
Pac is suscetible to just about every punch. Combos, left hooks right hooks, uppercuts. JMM hit him with just about every punch in combination. Pacman drops his hands and will pay for it every time against Mayweather. His defense is basic and nothing special. He only looks good against guys that stand right in front of him and trade... When will you clowns realize that. Name one fighter Pac has fought that actually had speed and footwork........
