15 rounds, who takes it? The Pastrano fight was late on in Moore's career, how do 'peak' versions of both fighters fare?

    No reason, no vote :good

Moore for me, it's notable that he might have been effectively 'better' during his title reign, but let's leave that for another day, or never. We already have the evidence of how this one went down, but i think it should be in the best interest of the tourney if we use a younger Moore here, just for some type of debate (as Flea mentioned already). Moore can do well agaisnt boxers, his own great defence means he's not there to be picked off and he can use that caginess to counter and pour forward when he sees fit.

    Moore on points.

    Top man:good:good:good

I'm going to say Moore via decision. Pastrano was so good defensively but I don't think he has the firepower to gain Moore's respect. Moore decision for more effective punching and aggression throughout the 15.

I'd agree with GreatA's post. Moore isn't going to outbox Pastrano from afar.

:thumbsup!! A golden star for you TheGreatA!! Y ou not only used the very analogy..the Maxim fight to describe this one, as I was going to do, but thanks for that old gem of a newsclip! I search the internet for newspaper accounts of fights of the past..yes, Moore by a decision, but dosen't floor Willy...who accounts well for himself but gets shaken and gives Moore plenty of respect after that. See, catching too much leather from Moore would have hurt him with the ladies.:smoke

It's hard to pick against Willie Pastrano, even when I know he'd lose to a certain guy..he's a sentimental favorite of mine.

I hate to burst in with the first controversial opinion. But les face the facts. A 46 year old Archie Moore fought Pastrano to a draw in a fight most thought Moore won. Just imagine what Archie would have done to him if he were younger and better. If you take the 36 year old moore of 1952, he would would destroy pastrano, most likely knock him out. Pastrano was knocked out by Brian London, an average heavyweight. Moore was the all time knockout king and was known to get the job done vs good jabbers.

The 'Ol Mongoose is too much for Willie. Keeping busy on the inside to outwork Pastrano & using superior boxing skills would take Moore to a UD victory.
