This is it the Main event! A True Cuban Classic! Luis Rodriguez facing off against Jose"Montequilla" Napoles. Rodriguez made it the hard way defeating Roberto Duran in the first round. Then went on to defeat Carlos Ortiz and Calos Palomino to reach the finals. Jose "Montaquilla" Napoles had a tough road also defeating Benny "Kid" Paret in the first round. Then going into a tough fight with Kid Gavilan. Finally a hard semi finals round fight with Wilfred Benitez.

LUIS RODRIGUEZ .VS. JOSE NAPOLES . 15 ROUNDS.

    Rodriguez UD

Has the footwork, speed, and jab to offset Napoles and the strength and toughness to exchange with him on occasion as well (although he can't get carried away here). Decision is something like 9-6 or 8-7.

I agree with the Wu. Much as I love Mantequilla, Rodriguez is just all wrong for him. He'd be a handful for any Welterweight that's ever fought.

Emile Griffith gave Rodriguez a tough time. Would it be fair to say Napoles would be even tougher?

Purely in terms of the styles match up i don't think this is too bad for Napoles, i've always thought the type of guy too use superior strength (and i mean someone who uses their strength) like a Basilio might be bad for him. But i still find it hard to pick Napoles, simply because i don't think he'd hurt his man, which means more of a chess match type bout would likely ensue. Napoles has a great sense of judgement and distance in the ring and i don't think that should be underestimated here, he is one of the best at slipping jabs and landing his own, regardless of reach disadvantages etc. However, i think Rodriguez might get by on his workrate and i think his strength would play a part when Napoles gets close and unloads, he can take it is what i mean. But then again Napoles might do the scoring and i feel he's being written off here.

This can go either way, i'm picking Rodriguez to offset his man's stuff just enough to get the decision, as the bout wears on the middle rounds get decisively close and whoever you think nicks them takes it.

LMR by 8th round cuts...He had a knack for cutting up guys..He was accurate, had a high level of technical ability, he was quite busy and he could bang a bit aswell.

I think he is the perfect example of the kind of fighter that would very likely expose Napoles only real glaring weakness...his skin.

I also think he has the ability to edge out Napoles aswell without the cuts coming into play..But given his tendency to get robbed, Im not sure he can win decisively enough to overcome this.
In an ideal world though I reckon LMR gets this one more often then not.

Ive seen the 2nd and 4th I think BG...and they werent even really close. The last one was an awful robbery

Part of the 2nd is on youtube (or was)...Thats the one LMR actually had scored for him. The judges only had him by a couple of points but I dont remember it being close...I thought Rodriguez won all but a couple of rounds Im pretty sure.

Rodriguez distinguished himself as the better welter than Griffith without a doubt.

Your probably thinking of the their 3rd bout at MSG, and yes Luis got shafted by the judges in that one too.

I asked the same thing to smoochp, and he told me to read the conversation between him and 'emile'. It looked pretty convincing and i'm not one to be gullable, i'm guessing GPater is talking of the same 'emile', who knows.

Are you sure thats the real Emile Griffith and not some pedo? Isn't Emile meant to have dementia pugilistica and be under full time care? Doubt he goes on Facebook to often.
