Floyd Mayweather supporters will never understand.

holy ****, the guy just got back...it's obviously the winner of pac vs cotto next or shane mosely. and not like he was gonna risk ringrust against a big welterweight, in fact it's pretty ballsy that he risked ring rust against someone as skilled as marquez despite size. better than when leonard came back and had a tune up vs Howard. Floyd had no way of knoing he wasn't gonna have to shake rust as almost everyone does and as a tune up Marquez is pretty ****ing good also it's pretty good for the old pockets versus some unknown welter. Surely you can't expect him to come back and directly face Cotto or mosely without one fight, he got his tune up out the way now there's only 3 guys that are viable fights for Floyd. If Floyd came back against someone like Howard who was a real welterweight but not even a top 20 welter he woulda gotten more hate than ever. only way it won't be a top 2 real welter that Floyd fights next is if Pac beats Cotto in which case i think a Pac showdown is justified if he's good enough to beat a beast like Cotto he's good enough to fight anyone at welter.

With that said I just want to say my opinion on floyd has been that of seeing a gifted child not wanting to get into an advanced studies class (my gf's kid is exactly like this) because so long as he stays with the regular kids he doesn't have to try as hard and gets straight A's for doing nothing.

pbf will always stand out if he keeps fighting the likes of gatti, hatton, jmm, baldo and even pac.

pac does not have the size to bother him, as in the case of jmm.

with his skills, pbf should aim for the stars, yet i have a feeling that he is content on feasting on opponents south of ww division.

 

I am a Floyd supporter and I just think he needs at least 2 more fights: Winner of Pac/Cotto, and one more. Probably Mosley. I just have a problem with his non-supporters. Because it seems to me that it won't be enough for them. I'm satisfied with his career with him coming up from 130 till now. It just kills me to see that one of my favorite fighters gets his name drug through the mud on this site. Most of it is simple name calling and personal insults. Some have valid points and I try do defend him, but when people get all ignorant with it is when I just log off.

 

Of course it's common sense that after a long layoff, a fighter shouldn't risk going in against really tough competition immediately. That's the safe and logical way to go. But if a fighter wants to be recognized as one of the greats, then he should strive to challenge himself constantly. Best case in point, when Leonard came back after his long layoff, who does he choose to fight? Marvin Hagler. That right there is the sort of thing that makes a fighter great. No doubt Floyd is so incredibly skilled that he can pull off this sort of stunt and still come out on type. But he doesn't do it. He has the skills to be one of the best of all time but he doesn't go out of his way to prove it. And it's frustrating sometimes.

And personally, I would have preferred that he fought some lesser skilled welterweight as his comeback fight. At least then, everyone would know taht it's just a tune up, instead of pretending that an old blown up featherweight presented some sort of challenge but in the end just prove to be at the same level of a tune up. Of all the advantages a fighter has over another, size is the worst for me. And don't say size didn't matter in the fight. Because it did, because of the size Marquez was slower than ever, could barely reach Mayweather and could barely hurt Mayweather. Mayweather didn't need to use his size advantage for it to be a factor.

 

I guy has fought a lot of great fighters.

1) Genaro Hernandez (38-2-1) Former WBA/WBC Super featherweight champion.

Floyd retired him on his stool in 8, and retired him from the sport.

2) Diego Corrales (40-5-0) IBF/WBO Super Featherweight Champion....WBO/WBC/Ring Magazine Lightweight Champion

Floyd retired him on his stool at Super Feather weight. Corrales went on to become lineal light weight champ.

3) Zab Judah IBF/WBO/ Junior Welterweight Champion...IBF/WBC/WBA/Ring Magazine Welterweight Champion

Floyd whopped his ass in an easy decision, despite Judah's dirty tactics.

4) Oscar De La Hoya ... considered one of the best fighters of his generation

Floyd has to go up to 154 lb and deal with the typical Golden Boy bull****. Floyd still beat him and it wasn't as close the pro-Oscar crowd and jocking Lederman would have you believe.

5) Ricky Hatton - Former IBF/WBA/Ring Magazine/IBO Light Welterweight Champ...WBA Welterweight Champion

Sure people say he's over-rated now, but back then he was undefeated and had beaten world class opponents like Kostya Tszyu, Jose Luis Castillo, Luis Collazo, Juan Urango, Juan Lazano, and Paulie Malignaggi.

6) Juan Manuel Marquez IBF/WBO/WBA Feather weight Champion...WBC Super Feather weight Champion... IBO/Ring Magazine/WBA/WBO Lightweight Champion

Of course haters say he was too small, but numerous great fighters have moved up two weight classes (Hopkins, Jones Jr, Duran, Spinks, etc) and been successful. Marquez is a great fighter, but he trained his ass off, was fresh off sensational victories over the best in his weight class, and had everything to gain and nothing to lose.... he got his ass torn out the frame!!!

To summarize.. No one is going to give Floyd the credit he deserves because his style isn't fan friendly and he has a big mouth. Regardless, he is one of the best fighters of all-time and has the potential (if he fights, Mosley, Pacquiao, Cotto) to be possiby the best fighter of all-time!

 

For sure there are a lot of ignorant haters out there who will go out of their way to **** on a fighter. But all popular fighters have haters like that. The problem with Floyd and his career is that even for more rational people like the TS, there is still something to criticize and those criticisms only give the real haters more ammo. Floyd shouldn't try to silence the haters, that would be impossible, but at the very least he should try to prove to the more rational fans just how good he is. I agree that if he fights and defeats Pac, Cotto and Mosley some people will say Mosley was old and past it, Pac was too small and Cotto was damaged goods. But just because people will say that is no reason why Floyd should fight them. I honestly believe if he fights them and defeats them decisively a lot of the criticism will end and people will start giving him the respect he craves for.

 

Yeah, and Sugar Ray never fought Aron Pryor.

Styles make fights so everybody wants Floyd to fight someone that has advantages over him like Paul Williams. Floyd is a welterweight at best but he did fight at super featherweight. He is not a big welterweight yet people want him to fight Paul Williams who is currently fighting at middleweight. To me that shows how GOOD he really is. People want him to fight the impossible to test him.

Just the same as people want Pacquiao to fight Mayweather despite the size disadvantage. They want Pacquiao to beat the impossible as well. Only because Mayweather has a cocky persona and lives in a world that invites "haters" that he is hated. To me he is just this generation's Sugar Ray. As far as talent and how his career has gone.

 

He might be an entertainer if his fights were entertaining but they aren't. When Roy Jones Jr was knocking out guys like Vinny Paz in 1995-6 yes he was cherry picking but his fights were entertaining. People were paying money to see him throw 12 punch combos. If Floyds fights were entertaining and if he weren't talking about how he is as great as SRR maybe we wouldn't hold him to such a high standard. He should have never compared himself to Sugar Ray.

 

How was Genaro not a good fight, for a fighter who only had 17 pro fights.

Giving Oscar a handicapped match and still beating him .. how was that not a good win.
