Ward has no more power or speed than anthony mundine, and kessler won handily with a bad back at maybe 60%. Ward is all flash. He carries his left in that triangle form, so his jab will fall short to the master footwork of kessler. Pudwill, I noticed had a little success in the 1st round w/ the right hand(kessler's best power punch) and pudwill also blocked almost every head shot ward threw. Mikkel is simply going to be able keep ward stationary in front of him with subtle lateral movement while firing a timed range finding jab, not the pop jab that ward throws while he's coming in to throw wide hooks that kesler is too sharp to eat. I've been reading all these ESB couch fans saying how ward is too fast and slick for kessler. He's neither, and all kessler has to do is show up at 90% and do what he does, and he gets a 10-11th round stoppage over ward. Also, mark my words. The 1st solid right hand kess lands on wards beak will have ward in serious trouble, or it will end the fight. Any REAL boxing fan knows that kessler is the HUGE fav in this fight. You just have to look at the long lasting substance of each fighter, and you have to like the dane in this fight.
I wouldnt base to much on the Pudwill fight. And I disagree, Ward isnt just flash...I think he has very good fundamentals and I find him to opposite to a flash over substance kind of fighter. I think he does the simple things very well and usually goes about his business in a workmanlike fashion.
He wont fight Kessler like that...He showed Pudwill very little respect and just went through the motions needed to get the win. Im picking Kessler to win...I think he does what Ward does well but better..But it should be a highly technical and competitive fight for at least a while. Ward is at home aswell, dont forget that.
Ward is a nice guy and a solid fighter. I'm rooting for him to have a great career. But yeah, he will lose to Kessler. As long as he doesn't get stopped, he shouldn't get down on himself. This fight will probably be an invaluable learning experience, and I'm glad that he has the stones to put his "0" on the line.
Ward is counting on his home town, commentators, judges, referee, etc., to cheat. Kessler has to knock him out to get a split decision there.
That would ruin the whole tournament from the start. The rest will be clouded in doubt and rubbish if this happens. It will also hurt any future attempts at making a similar tournament.
Very true, but saw a report on USTV that the judges will be swayed by hometown, etc. However, if Kessler were to be cheated, then that would hurt other's chances over seas. Hope there will be a level playing field for all fighters.
Ward is no punk. This Kessler **** could be over. I'll give the first round to Kessler though. He seemed to handle Ward a little bit during their faceoff in Cokeland.
I think Kessler is a lock to beat Ward, but it has nothing to do with Pudwill. I just think Ward, Dirrell, and Abraham are all in over their heads, and their lack of experience with quality opposition will show up very early in the tournament.
Comments on the handspeed and fighting on the inside. Funny thing is, that before the Calzaghe fight i was sure Kessler would beat him at the distance with the jab. Calzaghe won the jab contest, "because Kessler couldn't handle the second attack", as Enzo said!. Calzaghe simple won more rounds, because he attacked before Kessler was "ready" to clinch again. Kessler did very well in the first 4 rounds. In the 2. or 3. round Calzaghe tried to make it to a inside brawl. But strange enough, Kessler had the faster hands, turned Calzaghe around, trapped him at the ropes and throw hard punches. Calzaghe never tried the in fight again. Kessler tried to get his counter punching going. And he did very well. Tripping a little back wards, and countering with fast 2-3 combinations and hitting Calzaghe hard more than ones!. But Calzaghe could handle it and kept on "stealing the rounds". In that fight, Kessler only won rounds when he stepped a little forward, put on pressure and, with very good footwork, cut of the ring. In the Perdomo fight, Kessler tried to counter punch for 2 rounds before he changed his game plan and began to put on pressure. Exactly like he did in his best win against a very similar fighter to Ward - Mundine. 1) What i am trying to say to Ward fans is: Everybody thought Calzaghe would have the faster hands and would be better at the inside - but they/i was wrong! 2) If you assumes Kessler to be a well protected EU-fighter your are wrong. Kessler's biggest dream has always been to be the best ever by unifying the belts by fighting the best. So Kessler is more determinate, strong and lethal than ever. I could see a competetive fight like Mundine vs. Kessler. Kesslers best win today.
