Its all about how you look at it be honest. Its pretty clear that you have some hatred for Mayweather so when that happens you tend to undervalue what he has done and who he has fought. Using the same line of thinking that you used the same can be said about those that bash floyd all the time.. The criticism of Floyd is really unfounded, and for every case of ducking that you cats pull out there has always been a case where a fight was already offered to that/those fighters. It was the case with Cotto, Margo, and now even Shane. Those FACTS are often overlooked simply because of the hate that one feels toward Floyd. Its easy for you cats to come out after Floyd dominated a fight and call it a mismatch. Truth is alot of people thought that JMM would win the fight, as they did with Oscar, Hatton, Correlas, Castillo, and even Gatti.

JMM called out floyd not the other way around.

At the end of the day Floyd is in the same boat as other fighters that were widely seen as the best of thier Era's, and dont for a second believe that anyone honestly thinks that Paac is a better p4p fighter then floyd, its just that some hate the guy so much that it makes them feel good to see him listed lower on the list...I got off track there abit, back to the point. Robinson, Ali, Leonard, and Jones were all having the very same things said about them in thier primes. Alot of people want to see Floyd lose, and everytime he doesnt lose they come out with excuses for why he won, most of the times after predicting that the would lose. So what you have is a case of blind hate, if floyd doesnt lose then excuses will be made, it will happen with who ever he fights. If his next fight is Shane it will be Shane is too old, that is the only reason that Floyd took the fight, If its Pac he will be too small, if its Cotto he is too damaged, if its Williams he would be too weight drained. Berto not good enough. The guy is or will never win with people like you, nothing he does will ever be good enough. Dont spend much time debating that point, its like the racist that gets called on it and the first thing out of his mouth is "I have ---- friends, how does that make me a racist" You arent going to admitt that your a hater, but its clear that you are, only those that are like minded will agree, your not going to convert anyones thinking on the subject with that completely biased post.

Really this is pointless, as I said in the preceding post, you cant convert a pure hater, nothing can be done that will be enough for them to say "You know what that guy did do some great things" You dont have to be a fan of a fighter to know that he was a damn good fighter and beat good fighters. I can make a post and rip every freaking fighter that has ever put on a pair of gloves, but talking about who he didnt fight or how unworthy the guys that he fought were, that dont make it true, it only shows that I can be biased and flawed in my thinking but the hate blinds me and make me think that Im right.

I think you are missing the original poster's point of the thread. For some reason, it seems like when someone brings up valid points backed by facts, it is automatically labeled as "hatred" by that person. Something you stated above actually serves as an example as to why some people criticize Floyd, and its has nothing to do with "blind" hatred as you may think. You stated Juan Manuel Marquez called out Floyd Mayweather, not the other way around, this is true and nothing new. however, how many other fighters in Floyd's weight class have called out Floyd in the past? Many. And how many those did Floyd answer? Now, lets answer this question, was Marquez in Floyd Mayweather's weight class when he called out Floyd Mayweather? No.

Now going back to a couple thoughts brought up by the thread starter "Floyd has consistently picked fighters who provide least resistance, then uses the spectrum of media to hype the fighter, their chances, and the fight...." and "Floyd only gives a boxer credit when he knows he can beat him, he refuses to acknowledge guys who may give him trouble as even good fighters". Floyd gave much credit to Marquez and said Marquez was a great fighter and as you mentioned Marquez called him out. How accomplished was Marquez at welterweight? In fact, how accomplished was Marquez at light welterweight? Zero, nada, no credentials. So Marquez calls out Floyd and of course, Floyd says I'm not gonna let this lightweight guy just call me out and do nothing about it, I'll take the challenge, and to make this fight sellable and seem like it will be on some sort of even grounds, I'll agree to come in at a catch weight. For some reason, the catch weight portion never happened, at least for Mayweather, but thats whole other issue. So lets look at the Ricky Hatton fight. Ricky Hatton was rated where in the welterweight rankings? No where. So why this fight, if Floyd is the #1 best fighter in the world. Was Ricky Hatton # 2? I don't recall anyone having Rick Hatton #2 ranked next to Floyd Mayweather. On the other side of the table, you have Sugar Shane Mosley, who is the current Welterweight champ, the same division which Floyd is in, calling out Floyd Mayweather. However, Mayweather 'descredits' Shane and plays down the fight by stating that Mosely has lost too many fights. He could have easily descrited JMM for the same reason, he lost roughly the same amount of times. Whats even worse, he lost those fights at two-three weight classes below what he intended on fighting JMM at. He also states Shane is not a PPV attraction, yet JMM is a PPV star? I also recall another guy by the name of Antonio Margarito walking up to Floyd and challenging him. This was, another welterweight calling him out. So why didn't he take up on the challenge if the reason to fight these chosen opponents is because they merely called him out? In the end, the reasons for fighting one guy but not fighting the other doesn't add up. This gives the impression that Money Mayweather nowadays is carefully choosing oppenents based on lowest risk first, and is avoiding high risk fights all together, regardless of the reward.

 

It is quite a shame that it is not possible to criticise a fighter without being labelled a hater. It is not suprising that those defending Floyd have generally missed the point, they seem to have just noticed a thread that says something negative about Mayweather, and stormed in to post the same tired old things.

It is blatantly clear that Floyd is probably the most talented fighter of this generation, hardly anyone is disputing that, but it is not so clear cut how good his resume actually is. Obviously it is better than 99% of active fighters, but Floyd is generally accepted to be the best fighter in the world and many feel that his resume does not reflect this.

Anyone who thinks that the vast majority of his fights were the ones that fans were calling for must have an incredibly short memory. I have been dissappointed by his choice of fights for many years now, there has almost always been a better challenge out there, and to call yourself P4P #1 without taking the biggest challenges does not make sense. Before anyone says that I am a 'Pac nuthugger' or a 'Floyd hater', that's just nonsense, to some extent Pac's recent opponents have been equally carefully chosen but his modest demeanor does not draw the attention to his resume in the same way that Floyd does to his. That's the only reason he does not get the same degree of criticism. It's simply down to backing up words.

 

Tune up? What on earth are you talking about?! Why talk about the Howard fight, when Leonard came into the ring against Hagler after 36 months out! During that time Hagler had KOed Mugabi and Hearns. Not only that but Leonard went up two weight classes to fight arguably one of the best middleweights of all time. Floyd was out for a shorter time at 21 months, came back to the same weight class and was allowed to fight 2lbs over the limit against someone else who moved up 2 weight classes (in fact he weighed in 18lbs lighter on the day Floyd was previously in the ring against Hatton). There is no comparison.
