People always say that to you, doesn't male you feel any better if you have a nightmare in the ring though!!!! Kidding. Always got the utmost respect for anyone who's been in there.
Well I probably don't have anything that others havent pointed out but theres a few things i noticed. 1. Don't back straight up with your left hand down. I realize that with your style you probably keep it down a lot but there was quite a few time when he'd just follow you back and throw that overhand right. 2. Definately use your jab more. And not only use your jab but jab with authority. Pop that SOB hard so he thinks twice before putting on that kind of pressure. 3. Pick your shots. On the inside he had his gloves up framing his face and and you repeatedly threw the same combination. (that left hook followed by the right hand) You could have really scored points with an uppercut or if you went downstairs. 4. Work on throwing your punches properly with your bodyweight behind it. You definately have a lot of potential though.
I havent got anything to say that hasnt already been mentioned, your biggest problem was when he got you on the ropes and I think Mr.Butt gave you the right advice there. The only other thing I would mention was you dropped your left hand in the second I think it was and got caught with a right hook that seemed to shake you. I'd watch out for that if your fighting the same guy again. Just saying good luck and keep posting your fights, I'll keep an eye out for them. :good
Alright, I watched your fight and skipped straight to reply so my thoughts wouldn't be biased by anyone else's opinions, I'll go back and read them after I'm done here. Rd. 1 Looks like you need to work on a check-hook, in a small ring like that with a pressure fighter, it could definitely change things. If you're not going to jab more to keep pressure off, then a check hook could work wonders for you as well. Need to jab more, learn to turn your opponent if they're going to bull rush you, and you need to move out when your back is on the ropes. You have the build of a rangy fighter rather than an up close fighter, I've only seen this one fight, but it appears that your best weapons are at range. Rd. 2 In the beginning of this round, you worked your jab and it kept him off of you, I don't know why you stopped, re-watch, the MOMENT you stop working your jab, he's on top of you. I only watched the video once and saw that. It became really apparent to me in this round that you have a pretty big reach advantage on this guy, and that's why he's bulling in to you, excercise that reach advantage, move off the ropes, use his lead hand to turn him when he jabs and step out of that situation. Rd. 3 Your footwork looked a lot better in this round, you moved more, actively stayed off the ropes, and he only bulled in once effectively later in the round. In conclusion, I would say to excercise your movement more, stay off the ropes, utilize your reach advantage, and jab more. **And yes, I've had many amateur fights** -Hexus-
LOL. Were talking about a young kid here with 8 or so amatuer fights. At this point in his young career he only needs the basics to get through a fight like this. You can win any amatuer fight with the correct movement and two simple punches. The jab and the right hand, (or left if your a southpaw) Like I said previously your biggest mistake is moving straight back. Thats the easiest way to get knocked down or hurt. Your making yourself too easy of a target. All fighters make this mistake because its a natural reaction, but a bad one in boxing. Lateral movement is the key. Practice it in the gym, live by it. You seem to have a boxing style and this guy is stronger than you, so your going to have to box smart to beat him. When you practice in the gym, and if you will rematch this guy, spar a right handed guy like this and move to your right. Use your jab and righthand to keep him at distance. This will keep you safe from his righthand and he wont be able to land a lefthook if your at range. Keep your range established by cracking him good with a righthand when you feel your safe to do so, and then continue moving right again, behind your jab, simple stuff really and you dont have to throw a million punches, just calculated accurate ones and you will be in control at your pace. If you feel hes starting to overpower you and make you move to your left into his power shots, use a feint to stop him and then continue in the direction you want to go. If he gets you to the ropes and your getting tired, tie him up and wait for the ref to break you. Basic stuff. Stay relaxed, move away from his righthand, dont go straight back, (only side to side), and use your jab and a one two. Thats all you will need to beat most amatuer fighters. Once you get more relaxed in there you will see openings to mix in more punches, but practice makes perfect and the mistakes your making need to be corrected before you go onto the other stuff. Good luck.:good
I think we have the next Kenny Buchanan here boys. Keep up the good work Greg. Keep drilling the basics like lefty said..Because that pulling right back habit is hard to break, and I never truly did..its kind of instinctive to move in straight lines of retreat. I could safely say you would know more about and watch more boxing then anyone else in your gym. If I can only say something that you probably already know. Ive seen guys go watch Roy Jones or Ali and try to imitate what they did...sometimes with comical results. Obviously you werent doing that, but you know what I mean, you dont want to overthink or over complicate the whole situation. Its all about the fundamentals and doing them as well as you possibly can. Already I can see you have come along better then I ever did, so I wont bring you down with anymore "advice".
well gpater, the only thing that i have to say is what i've said before. you don't jab enough, you should be pumping double jabs into a shorter fighters face like that lad, you'll hopefully be beating next time. hopefully if you pump enough jabs into his face to sicken him he'll have to change his strategy i wouldn't bother trying to copy these ATG'S either.when i boxed there was at least one ali impersonator on every show and it didn't help them. which ex world champ'll be there this time to present your trophy ??
