What where the PPV numbers for these fights... All this recent talk of Floyd "Money" Mayweather being the ****ing PPV king, made me think about the past big fights.. To me, even though i was a young kid.. And had no internet, like most people back in 90's... Fights like Tyson vs Holyfield Lewis vs Holyfield Seemed allot bigger, weather i was in school or on the streets... People where talking about these fights..
Those fights would have done at least three times that if they had perfected cable and sattelite piracy like they have now.

Because in the whole scheme of things.. 1 million people, is not really that much when.. 19 or 15 Million people watched Nigel Benn vs Chris Eubank live 1 Billion people watched the 1988 100m Olympic Final Live Ben vs King Carl Just some sporting events, but they where both on normal TV. And so on.. Evander Holyfield vs Mike Tyson world wide.. Must of did over 10 Million.. Boxing is half dead, and i'm not fooled by these bull**** numbers.
And how many people went to the theater to watch Frazier-Ali I? Ali-Spinks II was a huge promotion & was shown on free live TV. I wonder how many people watched that at the time? I'll bet a hell of a lot more folks than any Floyd Mayweather fight. I'd be curious to see how many people saw ROGER Mayweather on free network TV compared to Floyd Jr.'s PPV numbers. I'm not talking dollars, I'm talking number of people who saw the fights. It's time for boxing promoters & other powers that be to get their heads out of their asses and their thinking out of the box and promote to the average sports fan and general public, at least here in the U.S. When boxing left free TV it was doomed. Let's look briefly at Sugar Ray Leonard and Mike Tyson. Leonard fought most of his early bouts on free TV, including championship fights with Benitez & Green. People, average people, knew him, loved him, and when the superfights came, paid to watch him. Same thing with Tyson, though he was raised on ESPN more than free TV. The average fan had access to him and followed him to PPV. PPV for average fights is a ridiculous idea that excludes the average sports fan from boxing. I'll bet it even excludes many boxing fans. I, for one, can't afford more than one or two PPV shows per year. Unless changes are made (and I think they will be), PPV numbers will diminish to the point that PPV is no longer a viable option for promoters and backers.
