I recently/FINALLY caught up with Myung Woo Yuh, thanks to Raging B(_)LL, anyone after quality vids should check his stuff out. Anyway, he reminded me a little of Julio Cesar Chavez, utilises the similar build (relative to their respective weight classes) in a manner that is not too different to such of the great Mexican. I do think that Chavez was a better boxer than Yuh though, definitely from what i have seen personally. Some of the most striking resemblences between the two: the short, straight, accurate and weighty right hand the willingness to always exploit his opponent's right side of the rib cage with a left hook when the opportunity shows itself the strength and relentlessness when his man's back is to the ropes A fight between he and Chang is clearly a war for the ages, i've always classed Chang as my number one in the 108 pound realm though. Carlos Ortiz vs Joe Brown had never watched this one right through until the other day. Not a great bout, but it does get better as it progresses in fairness to it. Ortiz comes out to jab early, but not with a high workrate from the off. He places his right hand in front of his chin every time he jabs. Boxing 101. He's content to score with the jab as the fight goes on, Brown too, but Ortiz is clearly doing the scoring. He works the body a bit and drops in right hands whenever he ships anything 'decent' himself. I was speaking to acb the other day on facebook, and i described Ortiz funnily as 'a man who just wins boxing fights'. He said it was fitting, he does know his latin fighters when all is said and done. Something else that is interesting is that i read a book years ago and Brown said something like 'Ortiz tricked me, he ran out for every round and grabbed me, then he'd let a load of shots go, then grab me again'. But from what i saw it looked like Brown did the spoiling. Something else that was nice; when the bell dings for the end of the fight, Ortiz goes to his corner, looking elated. Brown knows he's lost and follows Ortiz but Carlos doesn't know he's behind him. So Brown pursues him a bit more, with a smile on his face he congratulates his younger conqueror. Then when the decision is announced Ortiz runs over in the direction of Brown and jumps in the air with joy and Brown just smiles and (i think) shakes his hand. I've been watching some Masoa Ohba and Santos Laciar also. Now i'm about to see Gilberto Roman-Jiro Watanabe.
Haven't seen Ortiz-Brown. Yuh has a very good defence as well. Good jab, and although not super fast or powerful, he throws solid combos to the head and body. Damn good.
I've just watched some short Pascal Perez highlights, one shot power for sure. You seen Horacio Accavallo vs Efeen Torres? Watching that right now.
Im liking Gilberto Roman and Lacier myself. I like Laciers style when hes young and his jab was very educated he school Magri in parts with it anyway Teeto you on commision with RB
Haha, commission! I haven't seen the Magri fight. If you haven't seen this then watch it- Yoshiaki Numata vs Raul Rojas, spectacular war.
RB sent it to me i havent seen it yet ill wathc it tonight I got the Magri fight from RB its just a highlight package but shows maybe half the fight. Lacier was pretty young at the time about 21 and Magri was 23. I like Laciers fights with Roman there good ones also Lacier was a proper road warrior
I'm so sick, just laying on the couch dying watching all the footage i got off RB. I think i've got ****ing swine flu.
Teeto i once had the flu and my Grandad asked me what i ever i wanted and he would get it i asked for a jumbo sausage supper, he got it and the next day i was better get a jumbo sausage supper
Ortiz-Brown is one of the worst fights ever IMO. Great win by Ortiz, shutting down a (formerly?) very good and long reigning champion, but what a disappointing "effort" (lack thereof, I should say) by Brown. :-(
The yunata rojas fight was brief but brutal. The uppercuts yumata throws are genuine, no bull****, shoryokuns like from street fighter!!! Brutal k.o couldve watch em fight all 15.
