Freddie Roach: No Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather, Jr. at 147 pounds

Look man, I picked Pac at first and I'm sure everyone remembers it but I also stated that I'll need to him perform since I CAN'T pick ANYONE over Pac when they haven't fought in 2 years. Some guys return terrible or better after two years. Now I'm picking Mayweather to win this fight.

I honestly don't know what I want at the moment, either Mosley/Mayweather or Pacquiao/Mayweather. I love being in that position, it shows boxing is doing great and there's TOO many good fights to make.

I'll fully support Mayweather's next choice of opponent if and ONLY IF it's Mosley, Pacquiao or Paul Williams. He needs one of those fights next if his return is to make money AND achieve greatness in his sport. If he picks DLH rematch, Hatton rematch or any obviously easy fight I'll order it but won't support it nor argue with people that insult him. Look at Pac's next opponent, Mayweather needs to do something similar. Marquez fight was a good one for someone coming 2 years of inactivity but next should be a seriously dangerous opponent.

 

while the pbf-jmm fight provided the hope that it would give some blue print or something.

man, that 120-107 score was terrible. not because it was a stupid score, in fact, i think it was a most valid score among the three.

but this is the first time i came across a score like that in all my years of following boxing.

pbf needs challenge. at least mosley or williams or even clottey.

even before pbf came back from retirement, i have consistently picked pbf to win over pac.

if pbf was around mosleys age, i would probably pick pac or about an even fight. but pbf is 32, and not been through a lot of ring wars. pac is youngers but has been in more fights than him so ring age is actually favorable on the part of pbf.

Did you see the physical size of Larios? Larios is one of those draining themselves to pick on smaller guys. That guy is too big for 122 lbers, even for 126.

Mayweather had his share of exchanges in his career, especially early, he had a lot toe to toe action there and close contact. It's when he started moving up more and more that got him to increase defense. That's what Pac is doing too, improved leg movement and his team knows he can go far enough using his movement and speed to outland opponents and make them miss. Being aggressive and exchanging in higher weight divisions can be suicidal for either man especially if the opponent is naturally bigger. Roach made it clear in the recent interview with Cotto, their plan is speed and movement, make Cotto miss and outland him, that's their plan, it's not toe to toe unless Cotto has the ability to force it by handling Manny's power.

Anyway you make good points, whatever they decide to do I just hope they bring us the biggest/best fights, that's what we're expecting and no one can question Pac's choices, it's all about major fights. Mayweather should do the same and Mosley is a perfect start.

 

Nothing different there, like Marquez moved up two weight divisions to make this fight, Larios did the same and he was coming off an early stoppage loss to Vasquez. Regardless of division they both did the same thing by moving up two weight divisions. There are many other similar situations and there's nothing wrong with it. These guys accepted to go up and they did, nothing disgraceful there at all. People just try to make it look disgraceful because Mayweather is involved and that's typical.

 

yup. mayweather mosley and then mayweather pac.

that will be the best storyline for pac to end his career. if pbf loses to mosley, i think pbf should still fight pac.

 

you might have point there scar but larios is a legit 130 campaining in the 122/126.

he had the size advantage over pac during the fight. even if he went up two division, which actually is just about 7 pounds difference versus the 12 pound difference for pbf-jmm.

during the fight, larios was actually bigger. what makes them even in weight is perhaps pacs thicker calves whereas pbf-jmm. jmm truly had a size and weight disadvantage.

and the results, while a dominating win for pac clearly showed larios was game for it. larios trained hard and it clearly showed in his performance. larios was also much applauded for being a gentleman after the fight.
