    Rummy,

My list will also include guys who actually won the title but never really did do jack **** with the belt..........

    1. Ray Robinson
    2. Ray Leonard
    3. Tommy Hearns
    4. Donald Curry
    5. Roberto Duran
    6. Emile Griffith
    7. Kidney Gavilan
    8. Felix Trinidad
    9. Joey Napoles
    10. Oscar De La Hoya

Note: People need to remember that Donny Curry was awesome at 147 until he stuck around too long at 147 when he ran into Lloyd Honeyghan in the fall of '86.....

People need to think that while Duran never did **** with his WBC welter title in 1980, he was virtually unbeatable between 135 to 147 on June 20, 1980 against Leonard in Montreal..... That version of Duran was a killer for one brief moment in June of '80......

Felix Trinidad can't really box for ****, but he has power.... At 147, Triny was deadly......

DLH only rates # 10 on my ATG list of 147 pounds, however, overall he is an ATG fighter of the ages.....

Joe Napoles was a great little dude who did well at 147, but he really was more so a 135 to 140 pounder....... Duran was also more so a 135 to 140 pounder, but Duran was more ferocious in the ring.........

    1. Sam Langford
    2. Young Peter Jackson (Baltimore Demon)
    3. Sugar Ray Robinson
    4. Sugar Ray Leonard
    5. Miguel Angel Cotto
    6. Carmen Basilio
    7. Marlon Starling
    8. Aaron Davis
    9. Jose Luis Lopez
    10. Ike Quartery

it was very hard finding 10

    Why Hearns not here ?
stopped by leonard. most of his achievements were above this weight.
if i put him here then i could also put langford here , and then langford would have been #1 of course. which i finally did because i couldn't find 10.
if it was based on 'could have' then Paul williams would have been here.
mosley lost 3 times at the weight , didn't achieve too much here.
so did delahoya. maybe he even deserves a 'W' over trinidad but 'L' to quartery.
    margacheato is a cheato.
so was trinidad by the same way.
FMJ , Benitez , Duran , Whitaker didn't achieve too much at this weight also.
maybe duran , hearns and whitaker could have been put in.
and/but both duran and hearns were stopped at this weight and duran also stopped at 154 , really stopped , which says something about what could happen had he met hearns at 147.
but i know that enough people will put them in , especially hearns ,
so i try to balance the injustice.
Skipping the 154 , 168 , 190/200 and the 140 in the future causes much distortion of justice.

so after much thought here it is .

That's the worst list I've ever seen of anything anywhere. You suck at life. Die.

I don't understand the list but give him a chance to justify his choices.

Yeah, if we're excusing ourselves, I'll admit - a lot of my list is based on my own limited exposure (obviously) and largely factors in peak h2h ability (which is obviously going to involve some personal predilection as I'm going to favor guys whose style I view as effective). My ignorance of guys like Lewis and Britton and inclusion of Quartey may tick off some Classic folk, but this is a come-as-you-are all-inclusive endeavor, and I doubt I'll have time to become thoroughly well schooled on the entire field of candidates at 147 in a few short weeks (though I've certainly made note to check out the aforementioned pair), so I have to go with personal familiarity and my own h2h determinations (discolored though they may be by my preference for certain styles). Hence the inclusion of Quartey, who I can't think of more than nine welterweights that I've seen besting in a best-of-ten series h2h & pr4pr; as well as the perhaps too-high-for-some listing of Griffith and Curry. I'll admit outright that their inclusion has a lot to do with them being my three favorite fighters at 147, but likewise them being my favorites has a lot to do with their h2h effectiveness, or my perception of it.

Keep in mind Ike's welter record is 12-1-1 ( 8 ) (Williams through DLH, discluding Butters where both weighed over the limit) against opponents with a combined record of 373-32-11, or an average record of 26.6-2.2-.78 - which is fair to solid, but beyond that, he's just damn tough to beat at 147. Only a prime DLH did. And IMO actually didn't.

Right...and if the deadline was say, in November, I may forego making my picks until I can investigate some of the names being bounced around in high circulation and make my final decision weighing all relevant input. Rumsfeld's deadlines seem to sneak up quickly, however - I've missed three already so far :!:, apologies to Larry Holmes - and I interpret the contribution guidelines to be more of a "Right now, given your current knowlege" type of thing.

:lol:I wouldn't say that to just any poster. This guy is the epitome of a trolling lowlife. Every time he posts it's something along those lines. He's one of the worst I've ever seen on the Classicc Forum. He even puts Rooster to shame in that department.

I'll catch heat for saying this but, in my book, Charles Burley is VASTLY overrated......... I'm sure he was a good fighter, but his management sucked tube steak..... Plus, I've yet to see any real clean film footage of the guy....... Christ, ESPN Classics doesn't even show anything (fights) from Burley....... Peace.....

It's available on Youtube. One of the first things to do when trying to acquire something is to look.:good

Also, what does his management have anything to do with his ability?

I do NOT buy nor do I believe this utter horse**** that he was so good nobody would fight him.......... That's bull**** to the max........ Plus, if he were that great as certain fans claim, his management should've gotten him a title shot at somebody.......... Christ, look how many shots Ray Robinson got and won / lost the title belt at 160 pounds........ The fact that Burley and company could not get a title shot or obtain a world belt is weak........ Burley and his reputation is both pro and con...... That's all their is to that issue, as well..............
