I just read in another thread he said he did after the fight, and one poster said he almost left the ring after round 1? Anyone who saw the fight, is this true, did he seem to be holding back? Or did the old man really give him a good run?

Valuev didn't even try to throw a punch that much in the Holyfield fight. I don't get it Valuev throw way more punches in the Ruiz fight but not as much vs Holyfield??? Hmmm. Well we will find out when Valuev face Haye.

Agree. There is a huge difference between Valuev's performance versus Lyakhovic and the volume of jabs and punches he threw and his performance against Holyfield. Valuev was obviously not motivated and he refused that fight several times whereas that fight was a make or break for Holy.

But again, as u said rayhogan, the Haye fight will tell us.

I had this feeling because his previous performances were different , looked like he took it easy IMO . We will see from the Haye fight I guess .

He said many times before the fight that he didn't want to fight Holyfield because he felt that he was too old and didn't want to be responsible for injuring him.

Holyfield looked like Joe Calzaghe compared to Valuev. Maybe there is some truth to the statement made by Valuev as it is now somewhat painful to see Holyfield in action, but the Russian giant looked like he didn't want to win, which IMO he most definitly didn't.

Of course Valuev's gonna say this to excuse the performance and who knows maybe it's true (I didn't see the fight). Apparently he threw a lot more punches in ruiz and lyakovich fights, but did either of those guys employe holy's strategy (which apparently emphasized a lot of running and moving) and do it as well? Even if that's valuev's excuse in that he didn't want to hurt his hero, are larry donald and ruiz his heros too. I mean the holy fight wasn't the first time valuev should've lost or did lose to a b level HW....c'mon

Valuev ABSOLUTELY held back against Holyfield. He looked almost afraid that he would hurt Holyfield if he threw punches. That said, he was SO inactive that Holyfield really should have won the fight.

Compare Valuev vs. Lyakhovich to Valuev vs. Holyfield and it's night and day.

Holyfield embarrassed Valuev and won the fight.

    But the judges robbed him.

:good Holyfield just kept turning him it was easy work for Evander, he didnt stand in there and bang it out with him he didnt stay in range where he could get hit Evander Boxed a smart fight that night.

Valuev is saying that becuase he has watched this tape now for nearly a year and still cant find more than 2 rounds to give himself.
