Slight exageration on the undercard purse there. There was a world championship bout and you think that there was only $1000 split 6 ways? I say 6 because there were only 3 under card fights shown in the UK but Id imagine there were more.

Yes I just placed a random figure on that undercard purses since it's negligible compared to the main event fighters... Anyway, here's the actual purse figures for some of the undercard boxers:

    $0.050 million - Chris John
    $0.080 million - Rocky Juarez
    $0.125 million - Michael Katsidis
    $0.090 million - Vicente Escobedo
    --------------
    $0.345 million total

    ;)

Just a thread for the other side of boxing... Not really a concern for the fans as I stated in the very first post of this thread...;)

Interesting point really. A lot of people think the sales is simply down tot he fighters and the fights but most of it is down to promotion. Spend 1mil on the same fight for promotion and it would have struggled.

It was a good job by mayweather, goldenboy & HBO cause it paid off.

Hopefully other promoters learn from this.

Wrong.....the pay per view outlets receive between 50-60% of the fee. The promoters net for the PPV take was around $20 million. I would say that the promoters made about $5-10 million to split.

:rofl Ok, how do you spend 20 million on promotion. Just rethink this for a ****ing second. You dont pay sponsors to advertise their merchandising..they pay you. See Floyd with reebok. Then see Marquez with affliction. See everyone with Tecate. GBP did not foot promotional costs which did not cost anywhere near 20 million by themselves. They have sponsors that pay them to advertise during promotions. Yo, somebody drop that dude.

HBO Sports President Ross Greenburg calls the expansion of pay-per-view "the biggest economic issue in boxing" and says:

"I can't tell you that pay-per-view helps the sport because it doesn't. It hurts the sport because it narrows our audience, but it's a fact of life. Every time we try to make an HBO World Championship Boxing fight, we're up against mythical pay-per-view numbers. HBO doesn't make a lot of money from pay-per-view. There's usually a cap on what we can make. But the promoters and fighters insist on pay-per-view because that's where their greatest profits lie."

Ross Greenburg. I think it has already been debunked that HBO gets this lion share or even half of the ****ing profits let alone the cable provider that almost gets nothing b/c they are alreay paid.
