I see a dominant performance by Vitali and I think Ko's before the 5th...does anyone see a different fight
When it comes to skill sets, neither of these matches look that bad on the surface. The reality however, is that no matter how one cuts it, a fight involving Vitali vs Norton or Vitali vs Cooney is going to come down to durability and staying power. I simply don't see Norton as having the ability to hang in there with a much larger man who could punch and crack his chin.. Cooney's size might keep him in their a bit longer than Norton, but he like Norton, also lacks in the durability department... For the life of me, I also can't see either of these men scoring a knockout over V. Klitschko. Of course, if a freak incident such as Vitali throwing out his shoulder, or sustaining a very bad cut occurs, then there might be an unlikely upset. The problem though, is that the only times these things happened, were after the 6th and 9th rounds. I don't see Cooney or Norton being in it for that long...
over 12 rounds i think cooney can last the distance and i think its a close fight i know everybody is going to think i am mad but the cooney of the holmes fight has a chance i also think vitali takes a decision over norton. oh and cooney would stop wlad
Norton was so effective against Ali due to Ali hands being low and with Vitali having a habit of putting his hands low I can see Norton getting in plenty of offensive openings on Vitali who's footwork is nowhere near Ali.
Vitali gets hit less than Ali. He's much taller, has good head movement, throws more punches, and harder punches...and like Ali he can land from awkard angles. Unlike Ali, Vitali mixes in body shots and upper cuts, and doesn't take breaks on the ropes where he invites the other guy to hit him. Norton out-jabbed Ali, but no man has ever won more than two clean rounds vs Vitali in his 40 fight career.. I'm one who thinks Norton is underrated, but neither he or Cooney would likely beat Vitali.
Yep, in fact, i think Cooney-Vitali may be very similar to the Arreola fight yesterday. Cooney, like Arreola, would do anything to win, but ultimately be beat down by the 10th or so round. Emotional fight actually. You could see that Chris wanted nothing more than to win. I feel sorry for him, especially when i saw his daughter weep, but at least he won't have to cry when he sees his bank account...
Vitali gets hit less because he fights trash. If Ali could of spent his whole career fighting blown up cruiserweights like Gomez or fihgting 3rd rate hacks like that mexican Vitali just fought Ali would of went undefeated. You Klitschko fans may be more annoying than the Tyson and Rocky Marciano fans. Beating fighters who have no business fighting for a world title like Chris whatever his last name is and blown up cruiserweights like Juan Carlos Gomez only makes you a star in boxing forums like this one where people dont know their boxing. A prime Norton and a prime Cooney would both TKO Vitali late and a prime Cooney would blown away Wlad in a round or 2 like Sanders did.
Did you watch the last fight? Vitali made Arreola miss plenty. In fact Vitali made Lennox Lewis miss quite a bit too. Watch any of Vitali's fights. He has a knack for moving out of the way, and maximizing his heigt and reach advantages. Vitali's defense is good. I do recall Ali being floored by a sloppy and slow Chuck Wepner, and a skinny Banks, both of whom are not even as good as Arreola is. Even if someone lands a power shot, Vitali has a great chin. Body shots don't seem to bother him much either. A prime Cooney, who beat who's best wins are over past their prime fighters in Norton and Lyle beats Vitali? Very unlikely. I am a Norton fan but he was too easily intimidated and lacked a good chin vs punchers. He's a loser here too.
atsch You do realize that Frazier Norton, both of whom beat Ali, would just as much be "blown up cruiserweights" today, right? It's not all about size.
Wepner stepped on his foot. He was pre-prime in the Banks fight. His chin is greatly overrated because he keeps away and clinches. Arreola buzzed him and Vitali commented on how a jab hurt him. Lennox really staggered him in there fight. Lennox hurt him more than he hurt Lennox. His chin is not iron. He was arguably out-jabbing and fighting there with Holmes. That Cooney has a chance against Vitali. Vitali hates pressure. Did anyone see him basically turn Arreola around and run backwards? The guy was good for being 38 years old but he doesn't impress me. Anyone with some foot-speed, stamina, and pressure would beat him. Arreola would make guys like Norton and Cooney look like sprinters moving forward. Yet, Chris got to Vitali at some points.
