Did Mosley really ducked Floyd in 99?

No he didn't. And here is how it went down.

Shane Mosley just beat Golden Johnson in early 1999. According to Shane and others, he says he offered to fight Floyd, but was told by Floyd and his team that Mayweather was going to stay at 130 in order to break the record for title defenses.

A few months later, Shane Mosley just beat John Brown, and then Floyd and HBO approached him about a possible fight at 135 with Mayweather. Shane explained that he could no longer make the weight and wanted to move up to 147 in order to pursue a fight with Oscar De La Hoya. Oscar or Floyd were the choices. What would have you taken? Also not having to kill yourself to make weight.

So no he didn't duck Floyd in 1999. Sorry Floyd fans, it isn't true. (I have this all in old Ring and Fight Game magazines to back it up)

In 2006 you could make an argument that Shane should have fought Floyd after beating Vargas. But Shane passed because he wanted to have more time to come back to 147. In retrospect, Shane should have taken the fight in 2006. But he always thought Floyd would be there. He was wrong.

:deal Case closed. In late 1999, Mosley knew he was about to get a fight with Hoya for big bucks...therefore it was a situation of PBF being a high risk / low reward proposition, especially with DLH on the horizon..

i think one point that is often missed w shane bypassing an opportunity to fight floyd in 05/06 is his status within golden boy. oscar had made his intentions known around that time that he wanted the match w mayweather; and consequently, would want to fight him before shane.

Easy look at the two fighters resumes and who has taken the more risks, the ducker will be the one with the lesser resume/risks.

I find it hilarious that people cannot believe wanted to fight Shane Mosley.
He has said on MULTIPLE occasions that he (Team Mayweather) made two attempts to fight Shane Mosley.

In the SEVERAL interviews Mosley has done "crying" for a fight with Floyd Mayweather....Shane Mosley has NEVER DISPUTE NOR DENIED the attempts by Floyd to fight him (Mosley) twice throughout his career.

Yet ESB posters still SOMEHOW, SOMEWAY think that Floyd is simply trash-talking or LYING about making attempts to Fight Shane Mosley!!!

WOW...I am going to petition ESB to have an IQ Requirement.

He said that after the Vargas fight back in 06, not in 99. At that time, I believe Mayweather was already in negotiations at that time to fight Mosley's boss, De La Hoya. I'm pretty sure he simply bowed out of the fight and let "The World Awaits" happen.
Back in 99, Shane was out growing Lightweight and moved up to Welter with the De La Hoya fight in his sights as well.
Think about it, this guy has fought almost everyone that no one else would. The only person that can lay a claim to Shane ducking might be Paul Williams. And even that would be a stretch.

    :lol::lol::lol:

Who did Floyd last fight?, a blown up LW. Yeah his track record is something to behold. SSM on the other hand gave Forrest and Winky their "shots".

Mayweather was the 130 pound champion and fighter of the year in 98.

Mosely was also very hot in 98, with some arguing he was the best fighter of that year (some dominating knock out performances against solid lightweights).

There was definately talk bout the two facing each other all the way back then. Not sure if any "ducking" went on though. Making these kinds of fights can be generally difficult.

Put it this way though - Both have ducked each other as much as the other, as both have made legitimate attempts and offers to the other and yet clearly they have not yet fought.

This sounds about right, although my memory isn't that good to confirm.

This is what I said...Except for the part that shane moved up to fight Oscar...While it may have been a goal, it wasnt the reason that he moved up nor was it the reason that he didnt fight floyd. It wasnt a choice between the two. Shane wanted and tried very hard to get one of the 140 champs in the ring. Oscar never planned on fighting Shane until after his fight with Corley. before that Oscar was trying to get a rematch with tito signed, it was only once it was clear that the fight couldnt get made did Oscar talk of fighting Shane. Shane simply said he couldnt make the weight anymore. That isnt ducking but dont make it sound as if he picked Oscar over floyd cuz that isnt what happened, not to say that he wouldnt have picked to fight Oscar.

That was in 06. The version I've heard is that Mayweather wanted to fight Mosley soon after Mosley had already fought twice that year, he was planning a vacation with his family and DLH was already in line to fight Mayweather in the near future.
