When people make comparsions to Benny Leonard & other boxers in head to head match ups and say they are not impresed by the fotage they have sean of Leonard most likely they have seen Leonards first match with Lew Tendler. Leonard might look as good as advertised well that is because Tendler was also an exlent boxer himself. One of the most underated boxers in history Not because Leonard was lacking anything. I'll never understand why people aren't impressed with Leonard in that footage. He always looked damn good to me. :conf And yes, Tendler was a heck of a fighter himself, one of the best never to win a title.
I belive had there been no Benny, Tendler would have held the title for years. Or have been that era's best lightweight. Either way, I am impress with both fighters in that 12 round footage.
not seen a great deal of tendler have seen him against leonard do not know how much other footage there is,there have been a few jewish boxers that are ATG'S though but i would not argue with your point ,ted kid lewis and berg must be the two best brit based jewish boxers .
I seen the complete 12 round fight with Benny. It shows a lot more detail imo on there tactics than a few min highlights.
ripcity, sorry about the brief answer but was helping my son with his training, as i said do not know enough about mendoza to make a creditable opinion and to be honest am out of my depth discussing fighters of that pre-gloved era
