if you were brian peters what would you do ? i would get him in against maybe a fringe fighter again by the end of the year ,with a view to booosting his confidence. next year i would then next year keep him busy with a view to challenging for another world title shot,if he got one before he could get one again. just curious as to how others would deal with it
Who like? His confidence will be shot and he cant take a punch. I think if you put him in with Rendel Munroe for the European belt Dunne would get beat, i wouldnt even fancy his chances against Jason Booth!
I'd tell him to have the rest of the year off. Then I'd let him go for the Munroe fight. A very winnable fight for him and it's not exactly throwing him back into the lions den. And it's a fight that has been talked about for a while and if Munroe wins next time out it makes it a big showdown for both men. The difficult bit will be Peters and Maloney at the table.
yeh I would give him the rest of the year off. Then give him a tune up agaisnt a guy with a winning record thats not a big puncher. Then see what his world or european ranking is.
Seems like a reasonable plan....Also, as i've mentioned, if he gets a few wins against euro level fighters next year then he could be seen as an easy option for any world champ out there to defend their title against. Its not all bad. SO my advice would be to take the rest of the year off, try get a warm up fight for Feb or March , then possibly a showdown with Munroe in August and then hopefully he gets another shot at a world strap within 18 months...Wishful thinking, but not out of reach.
i thhink he would need his confindence built up that is why i would have him back i the ring ...between now and feb/march that is a long time in a sport where you have ashort shelf life ... was there any problems making weight?could featherweight be an option again?
I am somewhat supprised at the amount of people who think Dunne would beat Munroe. Munroe is by no means a one punch knockout artist but he hits well enough, covers up very well and is a good sized Super Bantam, i think he'd beat Dunne and where would that leave him? Matthew Marsh would be a good comeback fight for Dunne, decent name to beat and not a big hitter then perhaps a showdown with Munroe
As I've said in another thread, If I was him I'd retire. But, if he was to stay in the game he needs to take a long time off. Maybe 8 - 10 months. When he came back I'd put him in with a couple of good 8 round fighters and then go for Steve Molitor. For me that's the only guy in the top ten who he has any serious chance against.
Why retire? The guy still has a living to earn, people forget this is a job. I very much doubt he's set for life on the back of 2 fights. He's not old, he's not past it, he's as good as he's ever been. They've just got to consider he's not the most durable when they matchmake, and they should also move up a division judging by this skeleton appearence on the scales.
Well in all honesty there is not much between them, but being Irish and having watched a lot of Dunne i'm hardly gonna turn on him and say Munroe is gonna beat him..The same opinion probably applies for a lot of people on this thread and its not us being biased, its just that in a close run thing like that, of course we're gonna say Dunne would beat him.... I think some British fans have this attitude of turning on their boxers when they lose, and their sports stars in general. I think we see it a bit differently over here, within reason of course. I mean nobody, and I mean nobody was getting overly deluded about Dunne's abilities before or since the Poonsawat fight. We were all saying how big a threat this guy was and how Dunne needs to box and not brawl etc, I even made the point of how poonsawat was great value in the bookies for the KO...To be honest, nobody was really surprised in the 02 when he got sparked out, upset yes, but not in shock. At this level, unfortunately for Bernard they were all going to be tough tough fights. If you look at it logically,Dunne Vs Munroe, Dunne seems like the better boxer from what i've seen of both. Dunne has fought at a higher level. Munroe looks stronger at the weight but has no real power. Dunne doesnt have exceptional power, probably similair to Munroe. Munroe has a good chin, Dunne does not but has fought some hard hitters recently. All in all, looks fairly even on paper therefore thats why i just pick Dunne, because why would i back the other guy without good reason?? Its simple really.
Yeah i agree, if he's carefully managed he can make a nice little earner for himself....They went for broke this time and lost, they should thread carefully from now on.
I would love to see him having a comeback fight outside of Ireland. Mainland Europe or even in the UK it would take the pressure off him on his comeback fight. Put it this way if he is fighting for another world title fight it wont happen in Ireland he will have to go abroad to win it. Even a couple of training sessions away from Ireland and his family will make him even more hungry I cant see him fighting again this year but he is still going to get some offers on the table if he wins his come back fight in style. Its now a case of win or bust for Dunne from now on.
I'd have him in the ring around January/February time..... preferably in a 8/10 round contest against a half decent-ish opponent, perhaps on the undercard of Macklin's next fight. Then I'd look at potentially going after the European featherweight champion...... or even the British bearing in mind he is from NI. Staying at 122 is a serious no-no - he will never be in the Oliver McCall class by any means, but I wouldn't say he is certifiable as glass jawed by any means. He fought the wrong fight and was blasted out by Martinez...... whilst he got dragged into a toe to toe war against a pressure fighter - plenty of fighters with good beards will have been blown away following the use of such a gameplan, Krating isn't featherfisted by any means, and has high output. Build his confidence, and see what is out there. No need to retire.
Take rest of year off. I would then look at giving him some confidence boosting fights. I would advise him to go up in weight and say that maybe this would help his punch Resistance. I would also look at his training regime and try improve on the areas where he is lacking such as strength. His first fight would be away from Ireland as well take him out of the spotlight and allow him to work on just Boxing.
if i was him id take 6/8 months off, move upto featherweight have a comeback fight then one against a vulnerable top 15 fighter then get cristobal cruz ( if hes still champ) over to dublin and take his belt then go for one last pay out against a vasquez or a lopez etc and retire (after its fair to say KO'd)
