never read so much **** in my life.

Lennox would have blinded or stopped him if they had gone back out.

lennox was on his way to a loss IMO. if it wasn't for the cut, he just wasn't prepared for that fight and even though he was coming back i think Vitali would've got the W.

Lennox woulda got him outta there or at least beat him convincingly in the rematch though.

For 'cut' see 'half a face'

For Vitali not to have got cut, Lewis would've had to stop punching him in the face.

I think Klitschko would have been stopped in the 8th round.

Lewis was knackered, but Klitschko was staggering around like a drunk for most of the 6th round and was being manhandled.

The way it ended was probably the best thing for his career, it gives him something to cling to, in a way.

If it had gone on, he would just have been another challenger who gave an ATG a good fight and lost - that he did of course, but in different circumstances.

That is probably the reason why many people still rank him over his brother - even though it defies common sense really. Wlad hasn't had a defining fight, and judging by the state of the division, ain't going to have one without squaring up to Vitali.

    I watched this today actually

Its an odd one because yes lewis was tired, but he didnt seem to really be getting worse as the fight went on, so im really not sur ehe was about to get stopped.

And Vitalys punches noticeably lost their strength in the 5th and the 6th whereas lewis landed his best shots.

Oh and obviously the fight should have been stopped, i cant be bothered to read somebodies opinion if they think it was to help the tired guy rather than the tired guy with the broken face.

This is going to sound exceptionally out there  but...

Whenever I see pictures of that fight their gloves look ridiculously buffed and shiny... like a even a rub of the cuffs across the face could cause a cut, tear...

Ignore such threads, especially on the GF.

I think people were right in saying that the only thing the doctor saved was Vitalis eyesight.

You'll find threads that go on for 10,15 pages about how LL was 'lucky' and the cut was caused by 'lucky punches' and apparently people have said in the past that Lewis' dreadlocks worsened the damage around the eye:lol:

They also say Lewis ducked Vitali by not giving him the rematch,Lewis was scared,Vitali retired Lewis:nutPerfectly legitimate TKO victory.Perhaps slightly unsatisfactory/sloppy but a TKO win nonetheless

Very contentious issue on these boards

Call me old fashioned, but I like to stick to the basic rules of the sport. LL caused too much damage to VK's face for him to continue, so he was stopped.

All of this talk about if VK wasn't cut he would have won is utter nonsense. It's like saying if Tyson hadn't KO'd Spinks, Spinks would have gone on to win. Facial damage is a perfectly legitimate way to win a fight.

I watched this recently too. LL was on his way to stopping Vitali, until he, er, stopped Vitali. Next!

These kind of threads give me a good laugh. It's as if a fairy came down in the middle of the fight and ripped Klit's eye into a giant vagina. The most annoying thing about this was Vitali's pathetic moaning at the end of the fight.

Lennox Lewis was out of shape, and technique went out the window....

    In my opinion..

It was Lennox Lewis's greatest performance of his whole career

Gloves without tape around the wrist (or maybe red tape...?) just look odd to me.

That really bugged me as well. Vitaly probably knew that the american boxing public utterly dispised Lewis and so it was an easy thing to claim a 'moral victory'. A great champion in his final fight was treated with utter contempt by an ignorant crowd and a crook trying to steal a moral victory. They're still attempting a hatchet job on his reputation now.
Just look at some of Zakmans posts.
