    Boxing is obviously not dead.
Funny... In 2007, they called the De La Hoya-Mayweather bout the fight to save boxing, and it broke records left and right.
This year, you have Mayweather returning to face Marquez, going head-to-head with the ultra-popular UFC, and once again, it was proven that boxing is alive and well.
So tell me, how much does Mayweather contribute to boxing's revival?

    Boxing is alive and well....

I'm 23 and most of my friends love UFC and really aren't interested in boxing, but some are coming around to atleast tuning in to more boxing fights after the mayweather-marquez fight.....the key to boxing being successful is marketing the marquee guys like mayweather.....

floyd is very much a vital part to boxing success.....

Love him or hate him Floyd does put the sport on the spotlight here in the U.S.

One of my friends who knows absolutely nothing about boxing aside from Ali and Tyson calls me up out of nowhere and says " Hey you want to go watch the Mayweather fight?" I almost had a heart attack hearing him say that.

He does help Boxing out. Boxing very very healthy and very popular around the world, but Boxing should market almost every fight like they market a Mayweather fight here in the U.S. If that were the case then it would be even more popular and especially here in the U.S.

A fighter of Floyds caliber always helps boxer. He is also against the establishment of boxing. We need that. I love when he throws HBO for a loop and makes them look stupid. Love him or hate him. His skills are superb.

He is a personality that is making the sport visible to those who no longer have an interest in the sport.

you are right, drama( trash talking) draws people. PBF, RJJ, Roach and mayorga are prime examples, (tyson is still the master). look on whats happening with the Pac vs Cotto fight, both camps are trash talking.( im hyped up cant wait for this one)

I don't think UFC is as popular compared to boxing as people make it out. Boxing has much more general appeal.

Casual fans might only pay attention to 2 or 3 fights a year, usually involving the biggest fighter in the world, like Pac or PBF, or a national hero but they do tune in. Don't know anyone who follows UFC casually.

Problem is boxing will only have 3 really big fights that the outside media really cares about.

A sport can't thrive with only 3 of 365 days of the year focused on it.

I'm surprised some of you aren't giving reasons why Mayweather is not the biggest draw in boxing. Are things changing around ESB?
