Uh-Oh..Before we bring up Calzaghes comments on Roy a few years before fighting him..

    lets now remember Bernards comments after Calzaghe dominate Roy....

    "I've never seen a fighter come out of his corner bleeding as bad as he was when he walked over," said Bernard Hopkins, who lost decisions to both Jones and Calzaghe.


    "It was like (Jones' trainer) Alton Merkerson was using a razor blade in the corner."



    Hopkins lost a split decision to Calzaghe back in April in Las Vegas and Calzaghe took pride in beating two U.S. icons on American soil.
    Hopkins, who pulverized middleweight champ Kelly Pavlik on Oct.18, sat ringside and was hoping Jones would beat Calzaghe and set up a rematch 15 years in the making. But it wasn't to be.



    "Physically Roy looked old," Hopkins said. "He just didn't look strong. His body looked good, but in boxing you can look good on the outside but it's the inner you that pushes you through fights."



    Hopkins visited Jones in his dressing room after the fight. It was a somber scene, with one of Jones' sons sobbing and a dejected Jones trying to absorb the loss. Hopkins said he told Jones that his legacy will remain intact. Hopkins said Jones should retire.



    "I'm hoping Roy doesn't stay in and hustle his name and let people pimp him and use him up," Hopkins said. "This is a cruel business. I think Roy should just roll out. I don't think he has the physical and mental ability to fight at any weight class now - super middleweight, light heavyweight, cruiserweight, heavyweight. I think it's a wrap."

    WOW! But just like in Calzaghe's case i have no problem with this fight.

    Just for the Calzaghe haterz/berbard lovers that love to bring up that Calzaghe autobiography stuff and go crazy about it:good

    I'd be shocked if the fine denizens of ESB were anything less than 100% consistent on this matter as with all others. Shocked I tell ya!

    That was also before Roy looked pretty good against Lacy.... lets be real. I dont put much stock in that fight, and i too think roy is finished.... but bernard is the one who is constantly getting asked when hes going to fight roy, by media, by fans, by radio shows, and Roy wants the fight too.... so im sure he finally said F it.


    Nobody really cared to see JC vs Jones... and most were clamoring for him to fight dawson.


    I can see where your drawing the comparison, but i think its more acceptable by bernard given their history, the fans seeming demand, both being at the end of their rope career wise, ect, ect... and the fact that Hopkins is most likely going to head on to fight the other people people want him to fight after this fight.

    People were calling for JC to fight Dawson and Pavlik.... instead he fought Roy Jones and then retired, i dont think people would have had as big a problem with that fight had he gone on to fight dawson. I think it was the very anti-climatic turn of events that bittered people towards that fight... also, as weird as this may be, Roy imo was actually considered MORE DONE as a fighter then as he is now, having since then DROPPED JC (despite losing almost every round) and looked spectacular for his age against journeyman Lacy.

    Also, again, it cant be oversaid that this fight basically is differant in the fact that these two have history, and are constantly bothered about this fight.... and is hopkins chance to avenge his standout loss.

    i dont know... i 110% see what your saying i just guess i let hopkins off the hook a bit more then i do JC for the reasons i stated above.

    i was waiting for the old and delusional 'hopkins schooled him' response! people should quit watching the sport and focus on getting a reality check,what jc reduced bhop to in that fight leaves me cringing to this day!

    Sorry, but your wrong....

    BOXING fans wanted JC vs Pavlik and Dawson
    MAINSTREAM didnt give a ****

    what was left was hardcore boxing fans that were going to watch the fight regardless because its a high profile boxing match (like myself and most people on ESB)

    that fight i believe even had a 24/7... and did what, not even 300,000 buys? Are you kidding me? :huh


    no... like i said, outside a minority of people, nobody really wanted to see that fight.

    It was not a fight anybody really wanted to see... and if it was, certainly was not THE fight they wanted to see JC take, nor the SECOND, nor the third.

    so please explain this 'epic fail' on my part

    the lengths people to discredit him!! first we had the dinamita debacle and only yesterday a fake thread on him by some tool called marioncorbretti! saying he'd met clinton woods in sheffield and woods went on a rant about jones and jc,meanwhile woods is sunning himself in cyprus!

    Calzaghe v Jones comfortably outsold Pavlik v Hopkins at about the same time. That doesn't really fit your argument...

    i know this cos im friends with glynn rhodes i frequent his gym in sheffield and we were discussing clinton the other day,the poster hasnt been back on since i made him aware of this lol

    So many people were excited when JC VS RJJ was announced. Many people wanted that fight. The buzz before hand was about how close a call it would be etc etc and their was a great buzz for the fight. Dont give me that crap about dawson...please. I bet even Calzaghes greatest fans wouldnt have known who he was...compare that with jones. Also Pavlik i believe would have been made if he beat hopkins. The PPV figures are not overly telling-they co-promoted themsleves come on!

    Hopkins has said Roy is not the same "superman" as he was

    Hopkins says he will "put Roy to sleep"

    He is not trying to tell us Roy is still good
